Pool SOS

Sell them on FB marketplace, Craigslist or the OfferUp app. Sure there is some moral implications pawning them of on an unsuspecting fool, but said fool is buying them no matter what. Sell em for half price and you both win.

Eventhough you're in slam and doing what ya doing I'd like to see an OCLT because with a 30 CYA the uv ain't your best friend. You may need to bump to 40 CYA just to shield the uv some more. Don't get to far ahead of yourself cuz you're already programed on the hand written note dated for tomorrow. ;)

Hard to keep track of the days on summer break, lol.

What's an OCLT?

Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

sun and algae/organics are the only things consuming your FC. If you remove the sun and test once the sun goes down and as it comes up, You can than know if there is anything growing in the water.

Sometimes you pass and need to raise the CYA but knowing there is no algae blooming takes some of the pressure off if it takes a week to figure out.

Did you verify the 8FC, or did you just add per poolmath and record the 8? Coulda been weakened bleach that didn’t hit your target, gave you a 6, And then the 2 ppm loss would be closer to normal.

Make sure after dark to bring the water up to slam by checking it 15 minutes after the chlorine was poured in. You basically want to be positive you've achieved the slam level. Then in the very early morning at the crack of dawn before the sun has any chance to hit the pool you'd grab a sample after knowing the pump ran for 30 minutes to see the FC. That will tell you a lot more where the water is heading.

The pump runs 24/7
I'll do this tonight and in the morning

All the FC numbers are from my testing, not from pool math. And it's new bleach.
So you added at 11:15 AM and verified it was actually an 8 ? Sometimes folks just assume that adding XX chlorine will get them to YY FC. It doesn’t always do what it was supposed to and that can lead to false ‘losses’.

When you suspect something isn’t right, like the FC loss. You do the OCLT to see if it’s algae. If it isn’t algae it buys you time to figure out what happened. Like if low CYA was to blame for the FC loss. It’s not an emergency once we know there is no algae. If you fail the OCLT you SLAM right there to keep the upper hand.

Got it.

Yes verified. My chlorine reading at 1115 was 8. I then added 32oz of liquid chlorine and at 330 pm i tested and the FC was a 4.

Ok then it’s a legit loss. It’s possible that your doing better on the SLAM but now the heat wave is consuming more FC.

Or it’s all SLAM loss. Either way, stay the course. You’re doing great. Test/add as often as you can.
