My Polaris PB4-60 doesn’t seem to be running. When I turn it on it makes no sound yet it got hot.

You should hear the PB4-60 pump running.
Check the capacitor on the hump of the motor.

The output of my pool filter goes to the heater and to the polaris pb4-60.
It’s been working but I think it’s not ideal.

Water flows through the Polaris booster pump when it is not on and is normal. It acts as another return.
Show us better pictures of the plumbing in the area of the booster pump tee pickoff.
The booster pump pickoff was not installed in the typical location in the plumbing.
