I noticed today that I had some holes in my grout around my pool. Pool is only 6 months old and wasn’t sure if this was common as grout dries out.

Also, I noticed some pretty decent degradation of my grout where I’ve had calcium build up and had to remove it using muratic acid.

Any thoughts on either issue?

My pool is 5 years old and grout looks like new. Those holes look odd, someone with more experience with grout will chime in shortly I'm sure. Muriatic will etch concrete, so I'm thinking it will degrade your grout.

No, those holes are not normal.

Muratic acid will dissolve grout and should be a last resort for cleaning grout.

The holes should be patched with some grout and you should stop using muriatic acid to clean your grout.

So some of the holes are places I’ve rarely used muratic acid on. But yes I’m definitely going to stop using it

I also feel like every recommendation for removing calcium build up is to use a muratic acid mixture on here so just really shocked to see it do this kind of damage

Some types of grout are better then others. We don't know what was used on your pool.
