They could potentially claim that the screens blocked air intake for combustion air supply.

If the screens were too restrictive, they could reduce air supply below the required air intake for complete combustion.

The newer model has fewer air vents, so screens with poor airflow could cause the heater to malfunction.

Properly sized screen mesh should be small enough to keep out mice, but not so small as to obstruct airflow.

Most likely, the screens sold by MK are probably OK.

@ajw22 I was going to have the trusted 30-year-in-the-business pool technical install all the equipment. Not to belittle the complexity, but it is basic electrical and plumbing work here. I know he will likely purchase the equipment from a wholesale distributor who sells to professionals and not the public and then provide me an invoice with lump sum with line-item parts listed but not likely priced out.

Thst is more likely if you roll your own rat proofing. I will assume that there is enough
MK products being used that if it were an issue it would be known.

Easier for them to deny it based on some water chemistry issues.

If they want to create a reason to deny a claim, they can. There are no reports of Pentsir doing that so why speculate?

@JamesW i'm guessing it would be the Rat Proof 201 for a new MT400 being purchased this month. Frankly, I was going to purchase something like this

and cut to fit using small stainless steel screws (or even stainless nut / bolts) to prevent rust. The installation would allow direct access to panel screws for removal and servicing.

I suspect that the MK Products are probably not going to void a warranty.

Homemade solution could potentially cause a malfunction if not properly designed.

If mice are a known issue, then I would use the screens.

1 year of business or 30 years, if he follows the Installation Manual you should be fine.

Installers seem to have trouble getting those basics right. I find many of them in the installs we are shown. Incorrect gas line connections and sediment traps. Missing check valves. Many details listed in the manual are missed because the guys do not read the manual.

I would want the invoice from the wholesaler and know that the wholesaler is authorized to sell trade grade products.

The TradeGrade model is 460736.

You could get a 400HD, 400 ASME or a 400 ASME HD, but those are not worth the extra cost in my opinion.

Also, the lower efficiency for the 400 HD means higher operating costs.

The Ecommerce model is EC-462028.
