Hello. Noticed my chlorine generator did not turn on today so hoping someone can help me troubleshoot. There are no lights on when the pool is running. Attached some pics. Thx in advance. IMG_9171.jpeg

ed,

Normally, when you have an automation system, the salt cell is connected to the load side of the pump/filter relay so that the cell never gets power when the pump is off.

I am not sure how your cell is wired... Things to check..

1. Is the green light on the Surge card inside your power center on?
a. If the green light is on it means the power center is getting voltage
b. Check to make sure the cell is plugged into the power center correctly
c. Measure the DC output of the surge card going to you cell. It should be 30 to 40 volts DC
d. If you have the right DC voltage, then the cell is bad.

2. If the surge card green light is off..
a. Check the Power Center fuse.
b. If the fuse is good, then test to ensure that there is voltage to the SWCG transformer.

3. How old is the cell?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Assume it’s connected to the filter relay and the unit is 8-9 years old.

The cell itself or the power center? Perhaps the board went bad as I opened it up and noticed the tiny bulb near the board is not lit up while the pool is running. I’m guessing there should be a light when it’s operating as it should?

Ed,

The light has to be on for the cell to work..

There are two kinds of power centers.. The old ones have a fuse in the bottom of the metal enclosure. The new ones have a fuse right on the circuit card that looks like the kind of fuse you often see in newer cars.

If the light is not on, the first place to check would be the fuse.

The older units, are known to have faulty fuse holders. So the fuse can test good, but it does not seat well and so it does not allow the electricity to pass through. They sell replacement holder, if that is the case..

If the fuses are good, then you want to test the AC coming into the power center. Keep in mind this AC can be either 240 volts or 120 volts depending on how the power center is wired.

Thanks,

Jim R.
