So I got a second hand Hayward Omnihub for a whopping $50. Came with the controller display and the one relay. Everything seems to be there and it powers up when I give it power. I have a pentair superflow vs pump. Works great, it’s about 4 years old. I found there is a daughter board that I can get to control the pump. Has anyone done this does it work as Hayward advertised?

Also looking to add a salt system was looking at the Hayward aqua rite 940 more because it is available locally and easy to acquire. But then I need another daughter board. Seems like a lot of stuff to add a little automation.

Any advice is welcome. And if anyone has experience with the omnihub good or bad let me know as it’s not a huge investment at this point.

In the future I will be adding yard lights (Phillips hue) and hopefully updating my fiber optic pool light to led. I think the omnihub can handle all this.

Jeff,

I doubt that your Omnihub will control the SuperFlo VS other than turning it on and off. An older SuperFlo VS does not have any RS-485 control.

Show us a link to the "daughter board" you are talking about.

The daughter board that Hayward said I would need is hlpmpconv

However I can’t find much information on it. I have had many google searches.
So I figured I would ask here.

Picture of the board looks like the aquarite board but I am assuming it’s just a stock image. As it does have different part number.

Jeff,

The card does appear to have a RS-485 connectors, but you have two issues. One, your pump does not have an RS-485 bus, and two, even if it did, Hayward's serial protocol may or may not work with a Pentair product.

Thanks,

Jim R.

So gamble at my own risk. 😬
I assumed the round 5 pin connector on the side of the pump display was rs-485. But googling the rs-485 I see it’s more like a computer serial port. I will call Hayward or keep the google train going to see if will work was hoping someone on here would have had this combo and tried it already.

Jeff,

The connector on the older SuperFlo VS is for speed control using discrete relay inputs. The manual does a good job of showing how they work. One relay input for each speed up to 4 max.

The same connector, on the newer (2021 and newer), have both the discrete inputs, as well as an RS-485 com port.)

Thanks

That board is for connecting an IntelliFlo to Hayward's automation. As far as I know, right now it only works with the IntelliFlo VS.
Ok. Well that’s no fun. I guess, once I get my salt system set up I will use the hub for that, until I have to replace my pump.

Cool I will look in to 3 relays or just wait till the pump dies. I really like the pentair pump it’s quite and works great. My super flow has the 3 speed and quick clean.
Thanks for all the knowledge Jim I appreciate it.
