OB in NW Las Vegas- Open book here and on a budget

Merry Christmas to all of TFP!
Updates- Added a bunch of rebar and new engineering for the palm trees. Inspector was having a good day when he came out the second time.
Had Gunite scheduled for Saturday December 16. A little vacation to Mexico postponed that schedule. (And it wasn't me on vacation)
Wind on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The deal was that they would shoot gunite before Thursday or would have to wait a week due to a big job on Friday. 40 mph winds on Thursday pretty much set the schedule.
I work graveyard and am mobile. Decided to drive by the house on Friday at about 7am to make sure nobody showed up. Good thing I did. Trucks everywhere and people running around in backyard. (So much for my watchdog).
Sprayed Gunite on Friday December 23. Four hour job turned into eight hours. Not sure why it took so long but very happy with the sub. He had a few recommendations that were spot on. He even moved the sheer decent to a new location after already having it formed. Put it in a much better spot. Shaped rock structures like a champ. (Then he told me is was his first attempt at rock work). I think it turned out great.
Beautiful weather. Watering concrete 2-3 times a day. Hopefully some cleanup, deck work and tile work early next week.IMG_0990.jpgIMG_1023(1).jpgEB71995B-897C-42C6-99E0-814494951D8C.jpg

Kim,
I cheated. Very happy to have my mandatory reading in my thread. Thanks for sending me my own. I have read and re-read the articles. I'm not the sharpest tool so I will have questions when we start seeing water.
Also cheated on the TF100. I covertly ordered the TF100 when the wife wasn't paying attention to the checking account. (Doesn't count in pool build cost if she doesn't know). Practiced with tap water. Will practice a little more as we get close to plaster.

I asked for a little bit of boulders just to avoid a completely flat area around the pool. I think the Gunite boulders turned out good. Hopefully some finish sculpting and color will finish them off.

Ignore all the trash. Soon i will become friends with a shovel and wheel barrow. Typical project of mine. Backwards. Ran out of time leveling the yard before hole was dug.

I thought you might and you should to make sure you know how to do it. Once you start using it things will really start to sink in.

I like how those boulders look! He is an artist!!! WOW! Good move.....those are in great places to break up the lines.

LOL on the test kit not counting towards the pool build................really that IS the truth...........it is part of taking care of your pool so it is all good!

You are getting closer to water in that hole!!!!

A few updates:
Don't forget umbrella sleeves before gunite. :D. I did. I'm guessing a big concrete hole saw will get it done.
I picked my tile, stonework, plaster type early in my planning and was not changing anything. I couldn't understand how the decorations could be so difficult. That all fell apart after gunite. Wife has taken a major interest in her investment all of a sudden. Now she owns it. Fortunately we have 25 years of like tastes. Changed some colors a bit and the tile work started.IMG_1066.jpgIMG_1065.jpgIMG_1070.JPGIMG_1069.jpgIMG_1071.jpg

Hopefully some travertine over the weekend and next week. Still a muddy mess everywhere. I needed Lasvegas88 to manage my project. Don't know how you can make excavation, plumbing and shotcrete clean. But he did!

Closer photos of tile and rock work. Satisfied with most of it. A couple sections are unacceptable and will have to be redone.

Dude I’m in the planing phase for decking. I’m overwhelmed with quotes and different materials.... where did you get your travertine at?

Find the decking you want. Find your subs willing to install your specific product. Then let him give you a price installed. I would have spent at least $7,000 to purchase travertine. Sub purchased and will install for same price. At least that's my plan. Will see how it works over the next couple weeks.

A little bit of an update. I haven't been around enough to keep things progressing at a good pace. Finally working on coping. I chickened out and removed the palm trees. Felt that they were going to be a headache after pool completion. More changes from the idiot that said he had a plan and wasn't changing anything. Maybe a raised travertine deck where the palm trees were at. IMG_1092.jpgIMG_1094.jpgIMG_1096.jpgIMG_1097.jpg

 how in the world did you get up that tree?? I had to look close to see the hoodie and the chainsaw! Who ever had the camera must have had it on multi pics big time! Purrfect shot of it falling! Sad to see them go but I am also NOT the one that would have to clean up after them LOL

That's not me climbing the tree. Had to leave that to the professionals. (Budget busted again)
