Newbie to the SWG world now have yellow algae present and getting worse

The chlorine is coming down about 3 parts per day. Still around 31. Water still cloudy, but I’m following all the recommended procedures. Less yellow on the sides for sure. I’m still off from my target slam level. CC about 1.0.

yes, will do. The yellow visually is mostly gone. Can’t really see it anymore. Water is still cloudy though. I’m concerned about keeping the pH so high for so long. It’s been about a week now and I feel like I should lower it a little bit especially since the chlorine is still so high. No? Don’t want any damage to the surface at all because of the high pH and imbalance for so long. Thoughts on that gang?

Don't worry about PH right now. In the grand scheme of things, the length of duration for the SLAM and any PH imbalance is relatively short. Keep chlorine additions going to maintain SLAM and brush brush brush. As far as the turbidity, you live in the land of undersized filters if memory serves correctly, so that may slow water clarity improvement. What are your filter specs?

Nope. Keep in mind the first step in the SLAM is to lower your pH to 7.2.
That is because your pH test will show false high readings when chlorine is at SLAM.

Follow the process.

I apologize but it's not really clear to me what you're doing. Are you adding a c250 on to the existing system in addition to your current filter which is undersized?

yes, I’m changing out the cartridge filter entirely going from 120 ft.² to 250. Also, the levels are finally back down to planet earth. 22 right now I should be at 24 so I added some more water was looking clearer this morning, but after some brushing it clouded up again. CC was about 1.0

Have you cleaned your test cylinder lately?
Try doing so with some rubbing alcohol (rinse well)

Good suggestion just did that and tested back down from 26 from over 30 last night after adding more chlorine. Combine chlorine is essentially zero. Still losing a little bit overnight. Water is looking a little clearer, but have to brush it will cloudy up after that.

No need to go above slam level- just wastes chlorine as it burns of faster at higher levels.
Keep filtering brushing & vacuuming

Maintain SLAM level, then follow process exit criteria (3 requirements.)
SLAM Process

Finish the SLAM​

Once all three of these criteria are met, you have completed the SLAM process and can allow the FC to drop to normal levels.

• CC is 0.5 or lower
• AND your overnight chlorine loss test shows 1.0 ppm of loss or less
• AND pool water is crystal clear with no visible sign of algae (dead or alive) on floor and walls

You are to Maintain slam level of 24ppm- you said you’re raising fc to over 30ppm. This is unnecessary & wastes chlorine

It wasn’t intentional. I poured less than half a gallon and it raised it quick

Be intentional and deliberate.
Use PoolMath, Effects of Adding to determine the correct dose of chemicals needed.

While we are talking about PoolMath, set it up to share your logs to your forum account (sign-in to forum amd PoolMath need to be the same).

Add your test kit to your signature as well.

Alright all, and thanks for all your suggestions, water is clear. Levels seem to be holding. No FC. Now that it’s done do I go back to balance ph and alk and let her roll with the swg

Hope you mean no CC (not FC). Also, did you pass the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test? that confirms there is no lingering algae.
After this test then adjust pH and other as required/

Test passed! Thanks again all. Back to balancing. Question for the app users? Why doesn’t it store my levels I record? There is no last levels staying in place
