Newbie Intro and Possible build-Cincinnati Ohio

Hi All- glad to see some progress. The SWG is now on, the heater is on- 84 here we come, salt in the pool, no stabilizer yet. I need to take some readings to see what the chemistry look like.
@ Riley- I guess we could have lived in the Carolinas. I’m just ready to do some swimming before the season is over.

@Kim- The electrician made the board out of cedar and stained it and used tar on the bottom. It’s all ready to go except plugging into VS system.

@ Cincicobra- I am in Hamilton County off Beechmont Ave. I grew up in Union Twp. I would love to see/hear more about the Cobra.

@pookiesunshine- Thanks for word of encouragement! I’m looking forward to being finished!

I’m testing my signature. Don’t mind the geriatric Labrador who’s ready to swim.

Some cool nighttime shots! I’m glad I didn’t spend 1200 bucks on a second light.

Your siggy came out great. Please do add the test kit you have so everyone will know you have a good one.

Doggy is saying "NOW? Can I go in NOW???" Do you clip or dremel his nails? I do a one, two punch for my dogs. Clip for length followed by the dremel, with the sand paper barrel, to smooth any rough or shape parts.

So what is next and when???

Thanks gang! Retaining wall is supposed to be tomorrow then concrete next week. We have never had our dog Bella in the pool. I’m too scared to ruin the liner. My wife bought her a floatation vest and her own raft. We’ll see how that goes!! She is 13, had a stroke and is slowing down. Never mind the fact she is largely afraid of water!! Who knew a Lab that doesn’t like deep water!

Progress is going forward. Retaining wall took a lot longer than I expected. They are supposed to wrap up today.

Decided to move the hot tub hook ups to the far end of deck away from steps. It will be out of the way there. I can build a little set of steps to access the tub from the deck if my wife deems it necessary.

The concrete guys are waiting on wall guys. Rain is in the five day forecast, so we’ll see!!

so they just pour up against the wall right? i always wondered about this. that was one of my questions when we decided to put concrete under our paver decking and i have an area of wall that isn't very tall like 20 some inches. my buddy over poured my base for the pavers 18 inches and we sat the wall right on the pour. that way it is very very stable and if it ever needs to come out along with the pavers the concrete pour is still there.

I owe my designer a big Thank you :)

Jimim - I was told they bring the concrete about 4 “ away from wall and use gravel between pad and wall. I would have probably preferred the look you described.

I got a new friend and some concrete! I assume there will be expansion joints between the different pours.

Hot tub comes next Monday, but will need to wait to fill it for a week or so.

Well,

I think our pool building saga is nearing a close. upper and lower patio finished. Not crazy about the shape of the upper patio but waddya gonna do now??

We’re gonna party like it’s 1999 this weekend! Supposed to be in the mid 80’s. Water will be about the same !

Then, trenching for drains and a boat load of sod.

I put the solar cover on tonight and will turn the heater on starting tomorrow night. I’m ready! I have a lot of work to do to get ready for Sod, so it might just be a float and party weekend.

Jim- if you look in the first pic next to the retaining wall, you will see the gap. It turned out be about 8”.

Kim- it’s not so much circle shaped as egg shaped. The drain is kind of ugly but necessary. I’m just being picky.... can’t wait for it to dry out enough to fill the hot tub getting delivered on Monday!!

Please remember that you need to disinfect that new hot tub first... it had water in it from manufacturer testing and while it does get drained some is left behind which can set up biofilm of cooties you don't want to be soaking in.

Please get some Ahh-some hot tub cleaner and do a purge first. See the Ahh-some website for more information. When I do mine I use the Ahh-some, drain and refill and add 50ppm of FC for a short while, then drain and refill.

Looks great Todd!!!! Maybe some crushed or pea gravel or lava rock would fill that gap nicely! I am so mad I closed my pool when it was down in the 50's week before last as this weekend will be perfect for pool time. Congrats on getting it finished up and your results are awesome.
