Newbie Build - 27' Round AGP - Help Me build This OR ELSE

You can also get a gizmo to put in the return hole on the water side.

Make sure to put something on the ground around the skimmer. Water IS going to splash out from over full from rain or happy playing. You do NOT want to wash that dirt you worked on so hard out. I used a couple of steppers and made sure to angle them oh so slightly away from the wall to the water went away.

Chemicals-Run an almost full test (all EXCEPT CYA as that has to be added). Post up the results here like this:

FC
CC
pH
TA
CH (does not really matter but go ahead and run it)
CYA

We will guide you on the next step from there.

I'm a little late to the party here.

Welcome to the world of 27' pools, where nobody makes any sort of 27' foot cover, so you have to buy an 28' and make do.

First, very nice build. Those barbed hose fittings don't unscrew? That is how mine are. The hose fittings unscrew and then you can srew in a standard threaded PVC fitting.

I have two valves and two unions on my plumbing, one valve on both the return and the suction on the pool side of the unions. That allows me to isolate the pump/filter if I have to do any work on it.

Ok thanks. Learning how to use the test kit, was getting frustrated at first lol. Just took these reading and will enter it into pool math ap!

FC 5.5

CC (assuming this is taken from taylor test block) 5.0

PH 7.2

CYA 30

TA 100

CH 350

CC is taken after the FC test. FC measure free chlorine - how much you have floating around to be used. CC measures Combined Chloramines, Combined chloramines are what you get when the chlorine combines with nitrogen or ammonia - in other words it is working on killing something in the water. a FC reading means you have chlorine waiting around to do its job. A CC reading above 0.5 ppm means you have chlorine that is working on something big, big enough that the CC cant offgas as it is forming and instead is building up in the water - an indicator of something about to go sideways in the poll

You do you drop test for FC - starts out pink, turns clear. When it turns clear you then add 5 drops of R-003. If it turns back to pink then you have CC. You then add drops again until it turns clear again.

The yellow taylor test block also measures FC, just not as accurately as a drop test.

As for the rest

pH is low, but not alarming (mine is 7.4 as of this morning) some borax will take care of that. You don't want it to get any lower though.

CYA - 30 is where mine is, but that is because i run a salt pool. With salt pools you can get away with a lower CYA, My system also runs twice a day, so my pool gets dosed with Cl in the morning and then again after the sun goes down. If you are using bleach you may want to raise the CYA a bit.

TA is a tad high, but I would not go worrying over it. It can begin to drag your pH up, but yours is on the low side anyway

CH is fine.

Your water looks fine except for CC which I think is a testing error.

FC 5.5 - right on target for CYA 30. See FC/CYA Levels

CC (assuming this is taken from taylor test block) 5.0 - this does not pass a reasonability test

PH 7.2 - any pH in the 7's is ok. Don;t adjust it.

CYA 30 - good . I would not go over CYA 40.

TA 100 - its ok. Don't try and adjust it.

CH 350 - good.

Ok thanks for all the info. I had some flaws in my testing (mainly messed up the CH), but I beleive i have things balanced out pretty well with my water. I have been doing all the tests every day to get them down pat, and using the poolmath app. Today's numbers;

FC 6.0
CC 0
PH 7.6
CYA 50
TA 90
CH 100
TEMP 91F

Pool is perfectly level, really digging that (no pun intended). Bonding is 100% done, and I bonded the metal roof of pump house in 2 places, as it is within 5 feet of pool. I just want to get larger tie straps for the skimmer plumbing. Im installing a retaining wall, loaded with drainage rock and landscape mesh behind it. I will have dirt brought in and level to top of wall. Dug in under skimmer and tamped in gravel and paver base, then oversized pavers slanted away from pool and very small amount of dirt on top of that. I will be getting rock to go around pool and equipment and it will prevent the dirt splash deal ive got going on, among other things. Hayward filter and pump have been interesting. Filter came with 2 broken flex tubes, and hayward sent a whole new flex tube assembly. Then the pump developed issues due to bad wiring and assembly. Its running and they are sending me a whole new pump. I will use old one for a backup after i get it on a bench and fix a few small things.

Thanks all. Got most of the wall done, just need to get capstones and radius them in on the top, and get about 5 yards of topsoil. Then grass. Just threw down steel landscape edging, landscape fabric, and 3 yards of granite. Had a blanket of bees all up in my confer ladder this morning, sprayed them with demon WP and hoping they don't return.

That is a really nice looking job all around.

In the too late to change it now department.

1 - I have unions on the piping leading into my filter and pump. But I am in NJ and bring my filter and pump in for the winter. I suspect that being in FL, you use yours year round. IF you ever have to replace anything a union will make it easier, but you can always cut the pipe and install one when the rime comes.

2 - It's hard to tell from the picture, but how much space is there between the backwash outlet and the pipes going into the ground ? Hopefully enough to get a hose on there and past the pipes without having to put a big kink in it.

I have all Hayward unions around pump and filter so that is already done. They’ll be no pipe cutting

there is plenty of room to fit a firehose in there with zero issues. I got a firehose with adapter and used it once already

@stringer77 what hayward unions and how many did you use. Im going to use 1.5 inch pvc like you with a similar setup. Bought 2 jandy neverlube valves and trying to get anything else together I won't be able to get locally. Was it this Amazon.com : Hayward SP14953S 1-1/2-Inch MIP by 1-1/2-Inch Socket White ABS Flush Male/Female Socket Union : Pipe Fittings : Garden & Outdoor

Yes i used 1 Hayward SP14953S to attach return PVC to filter, 1 Hayward SP1480BLK to attach filter to pump, and a Hayward SP1500UNPAK2 (Used one of two) to attach skimmer PVC to pump. Hayward is sending me a new free pump so my leftover SP1500UNPAK2 will have a home.

Ah, I see them now. When they are right up against the pump and filter like they they are hard to see.

Mine are standard pipe unions that I had laying around anyway, and since they were glue on, they are in the middle of the run.
