New Pool this year installed with EasyTouch 8 which was upgraded to IntelliCenter i10D (523049).

Getting cooler so last weekend I turned the “SPA” ON, and the valves changed, but I got an “Err” on the Intellitouch and nothing on the MT400 panel (no lights no nothing). Cycled the Circuit Breakers (CBs) but still no response by the MasterTemp 400.

Called my GC but he’s currently swamped. I’m a mech by trade so I thought I’d get in the books and then look for some obvious issues. I took the electrical panel off (240V system) just to see if anything had charred etc.; but inside and all was good. Got the trusty multimeter out and checked to see if I had 240V at the 20 AMP Heater CB between the two poles and I it was.

Next, I opened up the MT400 panel to confirm wiring (240V red plug) security etc. I even checked the Fireman’s fuse and it was good as well. Nothing out of the ordinary. I opened up the other access panel and verified the “gas control toggle” was ON.

Flipped the intelliTouch panel down to see if there were any obvious wires/sockets not connected and didn’t see anything obvious. Pulled some of the installation manuals out and just couldn’t see the electrical details nor circuit panel schematics to confirm everything was connected correctly......it must be a duplicate wiring or something as I’m getting the “Err” for heater.

So, that’s where I’m at…..thanks for any help with some troubleshooting/ideas?

First of all, in multiple places you refer to your new system as IntelliTouch. It is an IntelliCenter and you will confuse people and their replies. Please edit the subject line and your post and correct it.

You have a dual body of water system with an I10D.

ERR is an error in the temperature sensor for your spa. Your pool or spa will not run the heater without an operating temperature sensor. In an shared system the temperature sensor is shared between the pool and spa. You have a dual system and a temperature sensor is needed for each body of water - pool and spa.

Why do you have an I10D and not an I10PS system?

Does your heater run in POOL mode to heat your pool?

With an i10D personality card you need a separate water sensor for the second body of water (your spa) and a separate heater connected to J3.

The i10PS personality board shares the heater and temperature sensor and has sockets for RETURN and INTAKE valve actuators to share equipment.

ajw22,
1. Good point I fixed the title.
2. I do NOT have two separate bodies of water. I have a pool with an attached SPA (plumbing all tied together). I do have a waterfall that uses its own Pentair 3.0 VSP. The SPA shares the Pool 3.0 VSP pump and the same water. Long story here. My pool designer sent me the P/N for the Upgrade panel. I purchased it and was gone for four months. I came back and my GC had one of his guys install it and that's when we found out it was the wrong one. Too late to return. I contacted Pentair and they said with programming its still no issue. Hmmmm
3. I only have the one temp sensor just down range from the filter.
4. See #2 above
5. Yes, I can get the heater to work in Pool mode.

ajw22, Yep, that is exactly what I was missing on the board -the normal intake and return sockets.

AV8,

Do you actually have two separate sets of equipment??? One set for the pool and one set for the Spa??

Thanks,

Jim R.
Jimrahbe, so I actually have another Pentair 3.0 VSP that operates a waterfall for the pool. It is wired into the panel and works great. Again it's is own separate pump-no filter-operates totally separate from the pool/spa pump setup. Its shares nothing except the water.

AV8,

I'm not sure why you could not use the i10D card and just add the missing water temp probe..

I'm not sure what Circuits show up on your speed control page for the main (Pool) pump...

I'd sure play with it before a bought a new Circuit card.. It might not work, but you can't hurt anything to try it and see what happens.

Thanks,

Jim R.

SPA mode will not automatically turn the RETURN and INTAKE actuators.

It will also not automatically turn on the heater. He will need to look if the heater can be associated with both circuits.

He can probably cobble something together with a feature circuit and circuit groups but it may not operate smoothly and flawlessly.

Depends how much patience he has.

ajw,

I agree..

It often comes down to what you have more of... Time or Money...

When I was younger, I always had more time than money, making repair the only real option.

As I have gotten older, I find that it is easier to buy a new XXXX rather then spend all day searching my shop, trying to remember where I hid it... The upside is that as soon as I return from the store, the old one will suddenly become visible.. :)

Thanks,

Jim R.

Allen/Jim, You all are great--the exact info I was looking for! I have to do weird things with my panel/app/and valves if I use the SPA in "Pool" mode so I might spring for the new card to to make things easy.

Av8,

Thanks... Almost all of us here at TFP are volunteers.. We do what we do, just because we like to help other pool owners.. For us, just the fact that we were able to get someone pointed in the right direction is all the thanks we need...
