Good luck. I haven't seen any of those on the market for a few years. That's an old style. You might need to go to the newer hockey puck style. The Quicktouch II.
I'd like to see what's inside.
If you're game for a little inexpensive experimentation ($10-20) a cheap Chinese/Amazon/eBay remote could work if it's on the right frequency. I use a four-button to control my pump speed and a single button to control the heater on/off.
