New Pool - Miami - Summer 2020 Build

Actually, I misunderstood. It isn't making the pool shallower but bringing the edge/sides up, so that the coping doesn't rest below the surface. Hoping it can get done this week.
now that you mention it, it does look like the sides of your pool are almost even with ground. mine were at least a few inches above the grade of lawn . our PB explained they needed to make sure the pool was the highest part of lawn so all rain would travel away from it

That's exactly it. The north part of the yard is perhaps 20 inches above the main part. (A mountain for Miami standards)

Definitely wouldn't want rain water to be trapped.
