New pool build - Owner-builder

Hi everyone,

I'm just posting my pool build so far. We are in the LA area. Decided on a 16x40 pool with a 6" raised spa (7x7).
For pool equipment we went with Pentair for pumps (3 hp VS, 1 hp booster pump), cartridge filter, heater (400k), and control center (easytouch 8).
Plumbing: Pool and spa circulation plumbing: (3) return lines on 2.5” line, vacuum line 1.5” line, 2 skimmers on 3” line, spa suction on 2.5” , and spa return on 2.0”, 3/4” fill line for intelli level
So far we have completed the excavation, rebar, rough plumbing and electrical and shotcrete. We are going to start next week with the pool deck and coping. Once we pass inspection there its on to tile, finish plumbing and electrical, installing gates and finally plaster!!

Hope we can get through the rest in the next month or so. We would love to have the pool opened for Summer.

Hi,

Not too sure yet about colors. Have been looking at This tile. We are going for mini pebble but also not 100% about color. We like the water a little deeper blue. Any suggestions welcome!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that tile right there!!! That will be so pretty!

Plaster color--------the darker you go the more prone to mottling it may be. Just something to think about. Here is a thread that was started to share different plaster colors. This might help you:

You think pebble is still prone to mottling. One of the reasons we want pebble is to prevent mottling.

Another pic for now with coping and tile in.
We have deck coming pour tomorrow.

We decided on this tile in the end.

Hope the decking and coping work out together. Coping we chose the Davis color Outback and we are installing Mocha for the decking.

Will post picks once it's all cured.

We're have gates inspection next.
Any thoughts on fencing? We are looking at a 5' high mesh fence vs a metal (aluminum or iron) fence.

That tiling and coping came out GREAT! I LOVE the tile you picked out!!! PRETTY!!

Make sure they put some kind of "chair" under the wire to hold it up. Do NOT let them pour unless they are there. They may try to say "We will hold it up as it is poured"!! It will sink back down when they let it go If it stays on the bottom like that it will not do any good for your decking.

Ok have a few more pics to share...

Plumber came by today and installed all the equipment and electrical!

I was a little concerned that the heater and filter are not bolted. Is that normal?

Next is fence and then plaster!! Cant wait!

That looks great!!!

The filter does not need to be bolted down. I don't THINK the heater does not need to but will call in someone who will know for sure. @bdavis466

Honestly I don't think it needs to be bolted down but I failed a final inspection because of that. I would imagine the inspectors are quite particular in LA...

Thank you! We spent many months planning and we really moved in the beginning but slowed down after we had the shotcrete placed because I didnt line up any subs for the finish work. It's been about three months in total.

With the earthquakes and all they are very particular especially when it comes to gas appliances.
I didnt even see a place to bolt down the heater.
One thing I brought to the attention of the plumber was that he installed the gas line before the earthquake gas shutoff valve. He told me that as long as its outside it's no problem (that still doesnt give me any peace of mind!).

I guess I'll find out when they come to inspect but would live to pass on the first go round.

Didnt really look at this picture before... your right it does look very similar! I like the sun shelf you put in. And the pavers look awesome!

Same here, everything went quick until after the gunite was finished. Then all the tile, masonry, and paver work seems to be dragging on and on. Many LONG breaks from 1-2 weeks at a time. In June, they worked 6 out of 20 workable days. They finally came today to work! Suppose to be here all week. We’ll see how much gets done before the next long break.

Looks like you dont have too much more to go. Hope they will get it done this month!! What kind of plaster are you going with?
