New Pool Build In Progress - IG Vinyl

Just haven't had enough time to really figure out what will work best for me.
With a simple setup you can probably run 1k or even less and still skim and power up the SWG flow sensor.

I'm running 1500 because it has more ripple to the water and it's still only 230 ish Watts. A couple of light bulbs worth of electricity. Pffffft.

It does evaporate through the vented cap that many of the bottles have. (Why the recommendations are to keep them away from any metals..... like in your garage), but they usually retain most of their potency.

That said, any bottle/bag can be a dud or beyond its shelf life.

However. If the PH is above 8 or 8.2 (depending on the test kit), it will read as 8 or 8.2. So you dose your 8.8 and it lowers to 8.4 and still looks like 8.2. 🤦‍♂️

Mix for 15 mins, retest, and dose until it's in range. This goes for high and also low.

The TA won't move quickly and takes time. It will come down on its own as you manage the PH. If you want to speed it along, manage the PH in the low 7s instead of the SWG preferred high 7s.

I will have to pickup another gallon, I've used all of the other and still not in range. I really don't like using it, had some vapor hit my nose the other night.

Currently I just don't feel like my water is super clear, seems a touch cloudy at times. Guess that could be from all the dust that blows into the pool when the dogs are out playing or the wind picks up.

Had to drop something off at my BIL Saturday and all he could talk about was his pool and how they are getting the biggest chlorinator you can get and getting a heater and and and and and and..........He was like I would hate to pay your electric bill being on county elec. Haha I'm like it only costs me .03 cents per hour to run my pump unlike yours that runs at 3600 rpm 24hous a day. Then he is like you heater is gonna cost a lot. My wife said to me later, he's my brother but I'm really getting tired of his Darn and constant mouthing about his pool or his whatever. In-laws are so much fun...LOL

Pour it a couple of inches from the water. I was dumping it at eye level like an idiot, for a long time, getting splashed and sucking it all in. 🤦‍♂️

Until the yard is cleaned up, the pool will be dusty. You use the chemistry to prove the difference between unsightly and unsanitary.
At any time if you suspect more than dirt, Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to remove the sun from the equation. If you lose FC with no UV/sun, something is brewing. Don't come ask if you should, come tell us you are awaiting the results and we'll chat about idiot in laws while we all await with you. :)

If you pass, and can attest that the FC stayed free and clear above minimum going forward, you'll be on good ground to say it's just dirty.

Welp. Life experience has taught me that if he wasn't having a better pool than you, it would be cars. Or golf. Or his career. Or all the above. Treat him like the pool store. Smile and nod and let it go in one ear and out the other.

yep getting splashed and inhaling it isn't cool at all.

I'll do a OCLT test and report those findings in the morning. I'm leaning towards dust / dirt because it keeps settling on the steps and it's clearly dirt, not algae but just to be 100% I'll do the test.

Letting things go in one ear and out the other has always been a challenge for me...LOL

Here are a couple pics from lunch. Maybe it was just a little cloudy looking this morning because “Little Willy” (robot) was stirring up the dirt on the bottom.

There’s a joke about the name of our robot and has to do with my in-laws and a grandchild on that side. They call him big Willy, he’s 7 months old and rather plump. Once again my in-laws favor my BIL's kids and grandkids over my kids and granddaughter which really upsets my kids. There’s more to it but that’s all I will say. What is the pH and TA on your fill water?
You know I haven’t even checked…I’ll do that and report back. I do know our county water doesn’t treat the ph like our city does. Our AGP that we have at the other house is always 7.6, it always stayed there for the 7 years we had the pool.

Ph currently at my new pool is finally down to 7.8, cya 50, FC 7

Didn’t check TA as I was trying to get new led spotlights installed. Neighbors have to love the multi color light show I’m giving them. Showing my wife all the different colors. Lol

My guess is your pH is off the charts high so you were having to battle it to just get it down in the the 7s. Something to keep in the back of your mind if you have to use the hose to top off the water.
My Ph test of the pool water this morning was 7.8, this evening it was 8.2.

Our fill water ph is 7.5

What is the deal with the pool Ph, it’s frustrating.

We need the TA as it may tell the rest of the story. I scrolled up a ways but didn't see it posted.

Take a minute when you have one and hit the settings wheel in the upper right corner of poolmath. Add sharing to TFP at the bottom of the page so we can see your logs. Also, if you haven't already, get the paid version. It's $8 for the *YEAR* and saves all your tests/adds. We can see the history and spot it going off the rails sometimes.

220 was my TA at last test.

I haven’t got the paid version yet but will do that tomorrow.

I think it’s time to adjust the swcg. It’s still at 50%, pump runs at 1500 rpm 24/7. FC was 11ppm this evening, cya is 70. I like my FC to be around 7.

So this is likely bringing the PH up and it will hopefully quiet down some as it gets closer to in range. You can speed it along by operating in the low 7s. Once the TA is handling itself at 100 or less, switch to high 7s.

I just turned mine down on 2 consecutive Sundays, after needing 60 % since June. Daily demand is falling off a cliff for many right now, or will be soon enough for the others.

My Ph test readings could be off because my FC is above 10. Doesn't that throw off the test?
Yup. 10+ FC tends to make the PH read high.

When you get a sec, go into the settings gear icon in pool math (upper right). Scroll down to the bottom and link the info to TFP so it comes up on your user profile here and we can see it.

If you haven't already, purchase the premium version for $8 (yearly..... woohoo and worth every penny). Then it saves your history and we can see all that too.

Pool Math is acting flaky on my pc, hit subscribe and nothing happens, won't save settings.

Knocked the SWCG down to 20%, FC was still at 11ppm before I changed the %. Check it again tonight, maybe it'll be below 10 so I can get a Ph reading. Probably could just of shut off the SWCG, it's only going to be about 70 degrees out today, pool temp is 74 currently, outdoor temp 54.

My daily loss fell of a cliff. It burned strong until 2 weeks ago 60% all summer in the full sun then 40% and 20% a week apart. Now a week later 20% is overproducing and fall showed up with 60 degrees. I'll probably just shut it off and turn it on for a day as needed.
