New Pool Build - Conroe, TX - LOTS of pics! Come say hi Y'all.

Suz from Florida here, lol

I still haven't gotten my bills yet and I'm afraid, very afraid : 0 and after all that trying to find out what's right or wrong I also figured it's all relative and in my case I probably need to run it more then most for the amount of green that falls on my pool daily... I'm still trying to find the perfect formula...

I'm fortunate that I get very little foliage in my pool. But we just planted so that may change. Our combined water and electric was 1000. So. Trying to reduce. Lol! Of course we ran sprinklers every day after resodding! AND filled the pool. The more we use, the higher the rate.

Janny - we are dealing with the same thing. My electric bill is quite a bit more than normal - about 150 + more than normal since we got the pool. I have a LOT of debris. As I stand their cleaning out pine needles, my trees laugh and mock me as they sharpen their aim and throw more in.

I feel for you on the bills. Ugh.

With that tree conspiracy theory I'm reminded of the Rush lyrics for the song Trees. Not the same topic but animated trees conspiring all the same.

I hear you on the debris... We "had" two giant pine trees above the pool and one just died this past couple of weeks just as the pool got finished....ALL of the pine needles fell from the tree into the pool, I was cleaning the pool constantly! Today we cut down what was left of the tree. I was sad to cut it down, but it was dead already

I did get a poolskim to help try to pick up some of the debris from the surface and it dies help.

See my avatar pic? The tree on the right is gone :(

We are in the same boat. We have 8 pine trees that are very close to the pool. We considered taking them all out for the pool - but the shade and wanting to maintain the look of the property we haven't. I need to find something to replace them with - and make a switch . . .

I know! I love the shade, the peaceful look of nature, the privacy, but those pine needles are a lot of work!

Can you post a picture of what it looks like now? Your thread is so many pages I don't remember where I saw the final project :)

In the pictures you can see the fence in the back - we are going to be tearing that down and extending the fence so that it is the entire acre - I know that will change the look some. I just don't know what I want to do landscaping wise. I think we will wait till spring to start - I don't want to be babying grass and new plants through winter. But ideas are truly appreciated!

I do know that I want elephant ears and split leafed (can't think of the name - but it is a type of elephant ear I think) right behind the waterfalls/walls. I was also thinking of some of the dwarf palms there too - but maybe I should go with more woodsy stuff. I just don't know.

Oh I see them! And what a beautiful beautiful property you have! I think it's a great idea to take the fence all the way to your property line.

I think it's a great idea to frame that area with some tropical plants, I'd think about framing the entire back of the pool if you don't use that side for entering the pool, I think if you do some ferns as first layer and then something medium height right behind them, it would block or catch a lot of the pine needles and keep them from falling into the pool.

We're still deciding here too, but I wanted to give myself a break from workers in and out of our back yard for a couple of weeks. I'm holding off getting the sprinkles done...I just want to enjoy the quiet just a little more :)

Let me say again.... such a gorgeous pool in a gorgeous setting. And you have soooooo much space. I would love to have all that space - in my younger days!!!!

I think SuzFL has a great idea of filling in the back perimeter of the pool with plants. I would begin with planting first behind the rock areas and then decide later about more. I'm all for planting what I like, so I'd probably mix tropical with the woodsy. And I definitely would be planting some color perennials in front of the greenery to peek up behind the rocks and even spill on top of the rocks, just a little. Pintas, lantanas, verbenas, are all so easy. There's a million of them. And you see those types of plants in the woods which goes well with your property. I love Kim's idea of mondo grass. I'm definitely adding a lot of that next spring. I think it looks great peeking out and around rocks to fill in between larger plants. For the non-mowing virtue of mondo grass, you may want to extend it further along the back perimeter of the pool. Then work on the greenery behind and alongside the color plants. Just MY vision, but you will come up with your own. And it will be fabulous!! The possibilities are endless and so exciting! If only I could draw.....

No rush, take your time. I love doing a little, sitting with it a while, and then doing a little more. I'm just not the type who can plan it all out at once in my head. It's always a work in progress.

Enjoy!
Suz.

OH how I miss the fun of the pool build!!! This time last year I was a crazy person preparing for the dig & now it seems like I've always had a pool! We still love our pool, no regrets! Life has been a little crazy, the hubbs had a relapse on Thanksgiving (Multiple Sclerosis) first in 10 years and it really knocked us for a loop. I haven't been on here in ages, but miss you all so!

We STILL haven't done any landscaping- but we sure have been enjoying our pool! (The firepit might be equal to the hot tub. Seriously, we use it all the time!). Will try to post updated pics soon!
