Welcome to TFP.
You have found a wealth of information from the members and the articles written to help all pool owners.
Suggest you purchase a test kit now so you have it to start to practice - test your fill water. Be ready for the initial fill day.

Also, some light reading for your below since you are moving into construction.

Building a house and started pool construction yesterday, came here from the the lawn forum as it was HIGHLY recommended.
If you need help - just ask the forum.
It would be helpful if you can create a signature that shows what you plan to have - size of pool, type of equipment, etc.
Create Your Signature to help us understand what your current setup is
As mentioned earlier, if you truly wish to follow the TFP methodology than you need a good test kit.
See Test Kits Compared so you can purchase one because the one a PB will give you (if they give you one) will be very basic and not sufficient to manage your pool.
Also suggest you read ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry because that will become the key part to your pool maintenance and provide you a clear and clean pool to swim.
