how the coping will be supported
we were going to notch the coping but the time it will take will be not worth the result so we are setting the plate back further so if at eye level you won't see it. only way u will is if u stick ur head up in the skimmer.
not set back yet in pic, just beam is notched

It all looks amazing!! I had no idea how the mickey would be laid out. I love it - just perfect! They truly are very special. You'll smile every time you look at them!

Congratulations! This is such a big step forward!

Thanks guys!

they r awesome! We love us some Mickey!

if u look at my Flickr account there r pis of some curios I designed and my buddy's cabinet shop built. You will really know how crazy we really r.

Just st click on the end of one of my pics and look for the album with them. Lol

kim. You said they. That's funny. Him! Just one guy. He is a one man show. We talk about how he doesn't even get a laborer. He gets to do everything himself. He does like em.

Tomorrow im laboring for him when he needs help. Some of my duties. Get donuts and coffee in the morning. Maybe carry some coping into the pool. Go get us some yum yum bbq for lunch. Carry more coping probably. You see a pattern?

jim

ps Becky!!!!! Thanks for my box o' goodies! I'm going to play with it tomorrow!

Opps I had forgotten about him being a one man show. He does some good work!

I like your job list. Just be glad he will "allow" you to help him LOL

I looked through most of your photos. LOTS of work being done everywhere! WOW!

Thanks for sharing everything! Have fun playing with the test kit. Remember to not bother testing the CYA as it has to be added to the water later.

The curios were a 2 year project st my buddy's shop. Thy would get worked on inbetween jobs. No idea how we got them in the house. They are beAsts. And one the glass was added they r there for life.

He does. Rant good work. Past 4 years I have been doing my basement which is now all done. He did the steps along with the bath and bar also in the pics. Those steps just match my upstairs steps he also did. We ran the trim at his shop too. The door on the steps was also built at his shop. It's a 3 inch thick soundproof door which I designed for my theatre which is my project. It's on hold now cause of the pool. I'm at the point that Dave can come in now with myself and we can wrap the room with wood and I can build in all the acoustic treatments to properly set the room up eventually.

Ua ya I got a lot going on. TheAtre is kinda my journey. Not end of the road so no rush with that.

SOOOOOO what I hear you saying is you like to stay busy and to use your hands and skills to upgrade..........NICE! LOL on that staying with the house! I bet!

Kim:kim:

If if I don't have a project going on I get very bored. We have been in the house 10 years and I have not had 1 year without a major project going on. Lol. Once the pool and theatre r done I'm afraid to say I'm done.

Then you'll be busy posting on TFP sharing all your many skills and talents with everyone here, right?! ;-)

I try. I try. My main skill set is whole home audio/video, automation, soundproofing for dedicated theatre rooms. Stuff like that. One of my best friends has a home theAtre company for the past 30 years. I do all his dedicated room design and project management to make sure our guys build out the room properly. I do all the home automation layout programming and management. I'll do installs when they are larger and more involved.

i also have a pretty decent knowledge of landscaping, turf, stuff like that cause of my grandfather having a landscaping business many years ago and learned a bit from him before he passed but mostly learned from my dad who helped run it.

i'm blessed that all my dad's friends are in the trades and many of my friends are also.

But it my real calling is like I said above. I'm pretty much a huge geek.

Jim

So you never told me if I got the right stuff for my home audio???
I love how TFP has more than pool experts :)

i totally missed when you posted up what you ended up buying? i went back and didn't see it will? I'm sorry! i purposely looked the other day too?

i'm messing around with my test kit. this is tap water. non well.

i'm thinking 1-2 and 7.5-7.8?

so hard to read the yellow!

ok questions:

1. when i do weekly chlorine test with powder and drops. do i use the speed stirrer with bean? cause of discoloring? if so i assume i can use the cl only beaker on the speed stirrer or can only the one it came with be used on it?

2. do all tests go on the speed stirrer?

thanks!

I say 1 for the Cl. You will usually use the drop test with the powder. It's easier for me. I think I've only used that Cl test once or twice.

Looking at my computer screen, the pH looks darker than 7.2 and lighter than 7.5. I'd go with 7.3 or 7.4. But you know how monitors are.....

I agree, the colors get to me sometimes.

ok questions:

1. when i do weekly chlorine test with powder and drops. do i use the speed stirrer with bean?
Definitely use the speed stirrer and bean. Even at the 2 year mark I shoot for testing chlorine and pH twice a week - more if we had flooding.

cause of discoloring?
unsure of the question here

if so i assume i can use the cl only beaker on the speed stirrer or can only the one it came with be used on it?
You can use any of the beakers that were sent to you on the SpeedStir. You don't have to use the SpeedStir if for some reason you don't like it. I love it.

Use the beaker with the 'chlorine only' white label for your chlorine test, because eventually the beaker will discolor. I usually use the same bean. I'm not sure if that matters. It doesn't seem to make a difference when I use a 'cleaner' bean.

2. do all tests go on the speed stirrer?
Not the pH test - use the 'test block' that you pictured above for the pH test. The CYA test is another one you will NOT use the speed stir.

You can use the speed stir with the other tests: FC, CC, CH, and TA.

If you bought the salt test kit (K-1766), you can use the speed stir with it, too. I bought the salt kit and used it a few times, but I prefer using the read-out on my PDA (Jandy's poor excuse for automation). The drop salt test was very sensitive to water temps (I think) and gave me lots of different results which in the beginning made me nervous I had done something wrong.

thanks!

Ha!!! Some water testing questions I can answer!!!! Yay!!!!

Ok awesome! That was a great post! I'm very very nervous about the testing. So nervous! I think it's cause I have never done it before. I got to get up my sister in laws pool this week so I can play. She has an above ground vinyl that I can test.

Thanks!

Happy 4th!

Are you kidding me? With all your DIY skills? This testing is nothing. It's actually fun. But I do understand. I was nervous too, but you have all of TFP behind you!

You're exactly right, though. The more times you practice, the more comfortable you will feel. But remember, CYA will not be in tap water. If your sister in law's pool has CYA, that would be a good time to practice. The CYA test uses more reagent than the other tests, so just practice once until you actually add your first dose of CYA. We'll cross that bridge with you when the time comes.

Here's a link to some testing videos if you haven't seen them already.

You got this! Suz has you well covered.

For the CYA test you can pour it back and forth over and over again to practice. You can even "save" it and have someone else look at it and see what they come up with.

Yeah the color pro7 looks so neat but it has to be calibrated and even then don't do the best job.

thanks kim!

i ran the number for the pool and with using pentair's calculator and using my pool builders square footage i get 24000 gallons. i'm going to order 4 trucks each at 6000 and if i have some left well i lost some money. or do i get 3 and just hose fill the rest if i'm off a bit?

how long would it take to hide fill 6000 gallons only? prob not long at all?

jim

I will leave that up to BUT the number one thing you need to keep in mind is how will it be hosed into your pool? You do not what it to be under high pressure on that new plaster. It could leave behind channels or disturb the plaster.

You will want your house going while they are between trucks as you do not want the water to sit in one spot or it may leave a line.

Do not stop the flow of water until it is half way up the water line tiles.
