New Intex Easy Set pool leaking through drain plug

Hi folks, bought a small 8' x 30" Intex Easy Set pool for my son this summer. Followed the directions, filling it up now, but it's leaking from the drain plug itself, not the pool liner around it.

Here's the thing... there's an inner plug, and then the cap on the outside (see photos). The inner plug is hard, not squishy rubber. And the cap is plastic. It's just not sealing tightly, probably because there is no squishy rubber involved.

Is this SUPPOSED to work like this? A water droplet leaks out every second or two.

It doesn't appear to be a standard garden hose diameter, so I don't think putting a standard garden hose rubber seal will work.

Please help!

Hello! When we had ours, I almost think we had to smooth the plug and it is really hard to push in. Make sure it's flush and smooth. And you might reseat the outside cap as well, it's really easy to cross-thread these.
If that doesn't help, then hopefully Kelly's suggestion might fix it!
