New contract / New build - SE Pennsylvania, Gunite free form pool and spa

What lights / transformer did you use for the waterfall?

Our contractor installed them, but I'm told the lights are a solid brass Focus lighting product rated for water/wet use. All of the lights are 12V LED/low voltage. The transformer I actually bought from Lowes and is a Kichler 200W - this is running all my lights, this is hooked into a relay-switched outlet controlled by my Easytouch panel.

Interesting - when I called Focus, I was told "Our underwater lights are not rated for pool use or any water feature connected to pools" and I'm 100% sure you need a different transformer for pool applications - see below:

Let me know if this passes inspection - at the end of the day, your family is in that pool - search continues.

I can't seem to find small "pool rated" waterfall lights. Savi has the Mini Melody-P, but needs 4" of water and a 1.5" return line fitting.....

Thanks for the heads up - hadn't though of or heard of this. I will ask them when they come back out next week. I trusted that they got the right light for the application but I definitely want to confirm now. :) Technically none of those lights are underwater as they are behind the waterfall/water areas but I still think the rules would apply.

Also maybe - Perhaps it isn't focus that they used for the WF lights and only for the retaining wall/cap lights?

As for the transformer I already have 2 of these for the pool lights - since it's also 12V I could also switch over to another one:

I have been watching this build but never chimed in.

I love your rock work. I also like how you used smaller rocks/pebbles as the landscape material instead of a different type of hardscape. That was new to me but it makes so much sense.

I might be borrowing some of your ideas

:)

Thanks and steal away! Our original plan called for mulch but I’d much prefer the lower maintence river rock.

i wanted to do mulch also like the rest of my yard. i'm glad i'm going rock cause after seeing how much dirt jumps in the pool with splashing from heavy rain then mulch would have prob done the same. i'll still keep the whole yard mulch minus around the pool.

Happy new year, all! Let's hope for a mild winter and get on with planning Spring work. :) A few minor updates:

-Grouting completed around the waterfall
-Handrail (wood) installed by the stairs to pass code
-Did final walkthrough with our landscape/hardscape crew, we're going to add one more drain but all is good otherwise

Also had a chance to play with the lighting briefly the other day -

It looks like you have the lights purrfect. No dark areas in the pool and area. SWEET!

Thanks Kim - still have to add the "side" waterfall landscape spotlights but happy with them so far.

Looking great! Come on Spring!

Thank you! And yes, I'm hoping January/February/early March roll by quickly. :)

Any updates? Love it!

Just waiting for spring weather to break so we can plaster. With any luck in a few short couple of months we'll be ready for plaster and fill! It's been a long wait but hopefully worth it. : )

In the background we're wrapping up some of the "as-built" work required by the township as well.

Short update after quite some time: Meeting with our project manager this Friday to do our pre-plaster inspection and to check plumbing, etc. Let's hope the weather holds out for plastering in the near future!

Most likely we're still several weeks out from plaster, typically once we get later into April (April is next week already!?!) we're in the high 40s/low 50s overnight here. :)

Really looking forward to completion. Everything looks great! Warm days ahead, I think lastnight was the last of below freezing for us overnight.

Thanks! Really liking this warmer weather as well. Hope it's around to stay for good for the season!

Great news! I can't wait to see it completed :p

Thanks and same here! It's been a long time coming, fingers crossed to avoid any major hiccups....
