New Build in NE FL

Squeaky wheel gets the grease!

I went outside to talk to the coping guy about different coping options for the top of the wall, columns, and spa. Originally the spa was to have 1 piece of 12 x 24 bull nosed on outside edge and it was going to be wide enough for the top of the spa but due to cave in issues and such, the forms weren't rigid enough and the shell wall was wavy so they had to float a lot of mortar to make the wall level for the stone which made it too wide for our single 12 x 24 pieces. Coping guy was showing how he could use a 16 x 24 and some other sizes and showed us the options. He also wants to use the same size or maybe it was 14"? Anyway it was from the pavers for the wall. He can actually bull nose all the pieces by hand! He took a scrap piece and showed us his work. I was impressed!

I called PB to make sure we had enough extra pavers to do that. I also told him the coping on pool beam looked perfect. Also mentioned we heard boss tile/stone guy was at another job today that started well after ours instead of here. I was nice about it and told PB I know he cannot control the subs but we were frustrated. Not 15 mins later, Edgy, our tile/stone guy shows up! Then in a van behind him is Manny!! The older guy who was moving!! He has another day here so came to work. We are so happy bc he is truly a MASTER at his craft. He showed me pics on his phone of a build he had been working on in Naples that had this huge shelf floor that had a floating walk way over to an infinity spa and the entire thing was glass tile! Even the floor and steps of the pool. Over 1450 square feet and he did it in 3 days. It was breathtaking!

So Manny and Edgy are fixing the one spot on our column, finishing the other column, and adding the stone to the riser of the steps. I am not sure when they are doing the accent tiles. PB insists we don't have to wait 21 days to submerge and he said he will warranty everything so if something cracks or pops off, he will order the tile and fix it on his dime so I am just not sure what to do...

But here is the scrap piece that the coping guy bull nose by hand. I am not sure if this is "standard" and something these guys are supposed to know but we are impressed! When I told PB he was impressed too and said this is truly a custom build. Ha!

Haha I will try to get pics of it before he leaves. They are busy on the columns right now.

It is steadily raining and has been for a little over an hour. No tile work today. I did snap some pics of the installed coping while wet as it brings out all of the unique characteristics and colors. It is just so stunning. I love that just individual pieces of this pool bring a smile to my face all on their own. Just looking at the glass tile makes me smile. Now seeing the travertine installed and how pretty it is makes me smile. I can't wait to see it all together.

We placed our bowl on top of the column and mocked up a piece of coping (coping is a bit bigger than it will actually be) but seeing it together we have realized the 21" bowls are just a touch too small. The good news is there is a local concrete place 15-20 mins away that has 24" bowls for $125 a piece and we can have them stained too. We were thinking a dark charcoal similar to the dark color inside the travertine. One of our friends suggested a blue like the tile but ehh I wasn't feeling blue.

OH!! And how can I forget! They placed the stone on the front of one of the steps!! It looks so good! Even the corner how he pieced in the natural edges. So glad we went with that. Thanks to everyone for helping on that decision!

Bowl mocked up on column. Really think a slightly bigger bowl will look better visually. And we can use this as a planter elsewhere.

I saw Manny measuring the other step so he should be working on that now. Edgy was fixing that gap on the first column and hubby had drilled through the column to install the gas key. Will post more pics as they finish up and will try to get the glass tile work Manny just did shared over here.

I really wish I could have got some coping with character just like that. I found the right decking but my options were limited for coping. I LOVE your coping

Thanks Will! I hope our project comes out half as nice as yours!

So all of the stone work is DONE. It all looks great. Just need the accent tiles placed, finish the spa, wall, and column coping, place the under step lights and the one on the back of the wall, do the deck, screen, then plaster. So close but so far.

I also took pics of Manny's phone showing the tile project he just finished. So pretty!

Completed gas valve key

And look at this gorgeous chunk of travertine! I def think we are going to seal the deck bc I just love how it looks when it is wet

And the stone columns. The top of the left one is darker bc those pieces of stone were out in the rain. Lol Toby was modeling with the wall. I was taking pics and started taking these and he just stayed in place haha the joys of a pointer

Presidente, our coping guy, was back at 830 am this morning! He placed the treads on the steps all the way to the spa, cut the coping to the columns, and is now cutting the coping for the spa. He does excellent work! There is one small area at the corner of the coping on the columns where it is missing are large chunk right as the mitered edges meet and I would really like that re done but everything else is lovely.

Here are pics of what is done so far.

Wow! Everything is looking fabulous! I love all the stones with their colors, patterns, and variations! You're making great calls. Yep, I would have that piece fixed with the chunk missing. That's one of those obvious places.

That glass pool - unbelievable! I wish we could see that when it's finished! Thank you for getting the pictures from Manny and sharing with us!

Thanks all! I did not notice the chunk until I got inside and started looking at the pics. It is seen from the side but not from above. Hubby just told me all of that travertine coping from the local store has been cut for the spa coping and none left. We have more travertine but it is from TM not our local store so it looks a little different... Will talk to him tomorrow and see what can be done.

We made the termite spraying appt for next Wed at 10am so deck prep HAS to be done and deck ready to be laid by then. That is the day PB told me to schedule so we shall see.

We are very happy with how everything is coming out. Thank you all for the compliments and also helping us out along the way!

Brent, it is getting pretty close to being worth it! Not sure where you are in Jax but we got some pretty serious weather today. Presidente was in a good rhythm when a nasty cell blew in around 430pm so he had to pack up and leave. Thankfully the really bad stuff stayed east of us but wow. Hoping this doesn't delay us the rest of the week. We have been lucky the last 2 days.

I cannot wait to see the coping on the spa. That will really make it look even closer to the final project. Yay!

Yeah, we are on the northside close to the airport and we got 2.58 inches last nite according to my weather station. Our grass looks great though however the pool is overflowing again. Time to drop the level again
