New Austin Build - We have a Pool!

That looks great. Love the shape of it! Make sure they put something under the steel to lift it up off the ground. Some people use broken up bricks or purchase "chairs" for it to sit on. Does not matter so long as it is off the ground so it is in the middle of the concrete!

Yes, I asked the same thing, haha. They said they will do that right before they pour...one more thing for me to verify :)

Keep an eye on them as some will try to hold it up by hand and say that is good enough  NOPE! You and I both know it will sink back down THEN they will walk on it................yeah something else for you to watch for!

So we got our deck poured and stamped yesterday (yay!) but the color does not even appear to be remotely correct. The tan colored deck picture is supposed to be what ours is similar to. The other pictures are ours. The concrete was supposed to be integral colored using a light wheat colored dye. Then a brownish antique release agent used on top for the stamping process. All I see is gray, however.

My PB says it won’t achieve its full color until about a week later and assured me it will end up more like the first picture. Maybe I should wait until tomorrow afternoon to start panicking, but for now, I just can’t see it happening. Someone please tell me I’m wrong!!!

Thank you.

Well, the deck color still isn’t correct but they finished the sitting wall and installed the pool equipment (minus the chlorinators). They also cleaned up a majority of the trash, thank goodness! Ready for plaster, hopefully, early this week!

Really like the way the grey pipes look. Never seen that before personally but I like it. No way that deck is the same color, have you spoken to the PB yet? I would think they could still fix it but I am not a colored concrete expert by any means. Love the progress!

I like the grey as well. It is some kind of coating they sprayed on.

I had a lengthy conversation with the owner about the deck color. He said they would take care of it but we haven’t talked about which way to go about it, yet. Whether it will be dyed, coated, etc. Does anyone have experience in this area and have a recommendation?

Looking very nice! I love all the trees in the backyard. Good luck with your deck. Building a pool is a stressful experience, too much money and too many things that can't be easily changed. Hopefully they will be able to make you happy with it.

Not a concrete expert here but I had a weird experience with my stamped concrete. I had existing stamped terracotta colored concrete. Had a concrete guy I know and have used several times come out and extend my patio. He matched the color almost perfectly given the fact the old concrete was 18 years old and not taken care of. When I sealed the concrete a month later with a very expensive wet look sealer (Can't remember the name but green can) it turned the color brown. It stumped my concrete guy. I ended up tinting the sealer with brown pigment and sealing the old concrete. Fast forward two years or so and the sealant has worn off the old concrete but not the new, so the color is off again. Just wondering if sealing yours would have that effect and change the color some or for some reason this was an abnormality?

That’s for sure! More stressful than I anticipated at the start.
The trees (and shade) are very nice. Keeping the leaves out of the pool should be fun! Haha

The PB has talked about sealing it to change the color. Only issue is it wears off and you have to re-do it later on as you know.

I was hoping for something that didn’t need to be re-done every couple of years. I am no concrete expert so not sure if a solution even exists that is maintenance free.

Options we have discussed are sealing it, staining it, or doing some kind of acrylic spray or coating...

Did you get an answer as to what caused the difference? That might help you with your decision on how to proceed.

Did you see the deck get poured? We had a two color stamped deck installed a couple weeks ago. They poured the concrete which was normal grey concrete and then smoothed and immediately start broadcasting the base color over it which was then troweled into it. After that they came along with the second color - the release color as they called it and spread it over the concrete and on the stamp and stamped the concrete. The next day they washed it off and cut the expansion joints. We went with a color called bone for the base and pecan tan for the release.

Anyway - good luck. I am sure sealing it will change the color somewhat. Sealing was always part of our deck - they only do the second color when they seal it as it will wear off quicker. The builder tells us we will have to seal it every 5-6 years. We will see.
