Hello all -

Been lurking on this site and picking up so much information since ordering my pool a few weeks ago. Currently we are scheduled for installation on Aug 6, as long as the weather allows. The pool delivers tomorrow, so I will try to post some pics as soon as I can. Today I received my Taylor K-2006 and I decided to run a water test just to get an idea of the chemicals I need to have on hand (quantities) to start. Here is what I got:

FC = .8 - this seems a little low, even for tap water. Per the Pool Calculator, seems I should add 21oz of 10%.
TC = 0
pH = 7.8 - plan is to add 28 oz MA
TA = 290 - seems high, but per pool math, just lower pH and aerate
CH = 90 - I know it is not critical since I have a vinyl liner, but wanted to check just in case it was really high
CYA = 0 of course. Plan is to add 41 oz in the sock in the skimmer method

Does this look appropriate to everyone? Thanks in advance for all the knowledge I’ve gained by reading this amazing website.

Nice looking water there. Your Ch is great for your state! Any chance it was run through a water softener?

Do you have a cute sock all picked out for the CYA? What? You did not know you got bonus points for how cute the sock is? :slidehalo:

Here is a shopping list for you:

-two 2 cup plastic measuring cups-one for muriatic acid and the other for all other chemicals.

-place to get your liquid chlorine-some pool stores have it. If you don't have one close then you can use PLAIN bleach (no pretty smells, splashless, or chlorimax stuff)

-muriatic acid AND a safe place to keep it-it cannot be kept by the chlorine. They do not play well together nor should it be kept by metal. I keep mine outside behind the barn where not critters go.

I would LOVE to see where this pool will be going!

Thanks Kim - I will take some pictures this weekend to post. For now, here is a picture of the little pool we are replacing. It is already gone.

Kim- can you clarify this? Does this mean they can't be stored near each other so they don't come in contact once open or does it mean EVEN inside their containers, if everything is contained and the two things don't mix, MA can't be kept by the chlorine? Is there any kind of off-gassing or things passing through the containers or is it just a safety precaution so that they never accidentally mix with one another?

Additionally, do you have thoughts on these fills numbers?
FC- 1.5
PH- 8.7 (I now know why with an auto-fill, waterfall and plaster I'm constantly fighting PH being high.)
CH- 50
TA- 30
CYA-0

Chlorine and muriatic acid both out gas fumes. You do NOT want to be around if they mix as it can cause toxic gas. The m.a. is in a jug with a vented cap so it's fumes can escape. It is not fun to work with.

Looking at your fill water I see you will need to add stuff to push the CH and TA up. Look in my siggy for the "recommend chemicals" link.

Know that when you work on pushing the pH down it will also push the TA down so be ready for that.

When you are working on the CH only add half of what Pool Math tells you to. It is easier to add than to remove as you have to drain water to remove CH and CYA.

Thank you! I'll get the MA outside... I never have issues with CYA or CH being too high, even when I was using pucks and powder. CH has been poking up a bit this year into the mid-high 300s but never beyond that. CYA is always at the lower end and I have to add a lot of stabilizer to get it up. (I'm a fan of the basket net over the sock..btw. ) : )
My biggest issues are keeping Ph down and CL up but I don't think I'm unique in those regards.
