I have to replace some plastic pump parts such as the impeller and pump seal.

Pentair parts are 60-90 dollars. eBay and Amazon parts are half as much or less.

since we already replace sealsand gaskets with genetics is it vitally important to buy name brand pieces which are essentially plastic or are these generic pieces generally adequate

I think most parts you buy for cars are generic and they tend to work "most" of the time. I think as long as you buy from a reputable reseller and Mfg, you should be okay. Especially since the price is so much cheaper, like amost 75% cheaper, it might be worth the risk. On that same note, I bought Pleatco generic filter grids for my Pentair FNS 60 Plus filter at 50% of the cost of OE Pentair grids and I'm more than impressed with the generic replacements, to the point where I think they are made better than the originals.
