Multiport valve and Intelliflo priming speeds

I have a question regarding switching my multiport valve to different settings and then having to re-prime my Intelliflo VSP. I can't change the multiport settings while the pump is running but the pump primes at 3450.

How do I change the settings without blowing my plumbing or filter apart? Do people limit the prime speed or do you just let it prime at full blast or some other method?

Priming speeds can vary based on the pool's plumbing design among other things as noted on THIS THREAD. So you'll simply need to find what works best for you. As you may already know, it is standard practice to have the pump off when changing multiport valve settings, regardless of the type pump.
