Leak from pump PVC

Is there a union in the line above the picture? If so, then it's an extremely easy fix. If it's not them it's a little bit more involved. Cut the pipe into, unscrew and clean the threads, apply some t-tape or Teflon pipe paste, add a union to the cut pipe pieces, and reassemble the piping. If you're not experienced with gluing PCV you can use a PVC compression coupling instead.

Ja,

No real fix that will last very long... you can use silicone caulk but it is only a temporary fix..

Pumps should be installed with Pump Unions.. They have an O-Ring between the body of the pump and union.. right above the threads...

See this link... Pump Unions for IntelliFlo - Threaded 2" w/O-Rings (2 Union Sets) Link is for the picture only, not saying the price or the size works for your pump..

Thanks,

JA123,
you have a single speed pump Hayward. if you plan to upgrade then think about union that fit into the new pump while you redo your pipe. otherwise, cutting pipe and put a unions at both in and out of your pump. that will save you time in future.
as others had mention, there is no real fix.

I went through this with my old setup. Previous owner/builder didn't use unions at inlet and outlet of the pump. I ended up cutting pipe and install union that mention by Jim R.. then I purchased Jacuzzi pump, I have to redo again due to Pentair 2" union doesn't fit with Jacuzzi VS pump inlet and outlet.

ja,

Assuming your equipment pad is above the level of your pool water, all you need to do is open the pump lid and all the water will drain out of the pipe. Then just cut away...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hey jim,

the equipment is actually below pool level. Every time I clean the pump basket I have to plug my skimmers and close valves. I’m guessing this has to be done as well? Should I drain the filter as well?

ja,

As you already know the water will try to drain down to the same level as the equipment pad...

You will have to do all the same things that you normally do when opening the pump lid... You can put your multiport valve in off position to keep it from draining, or just use this opportunity, as the glue is drying on your repair, to clean the filter...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Pump should be sitting on something a little more secure then just placing it on the rock/gravel. The vibration of the pump will cause it to move around and this will cause leaks in your piping and possibly cracks over time.
