Earlier this afternoon I noticed the pump making a weird sound so I went to check on it and low and behold there’s a suction side air leak and one of the unions cracked and so water isn’t cycling through the pump. I went to 3 different pool supply stores (all same company) and none of them had any unions…so they sent me on my way with zero solution.

So I guess Amazon, it is. But my question is, I need to cut the pvc that this cracked union is connected to in order to fit new one on, reconnect the pvc pipe to the pipe I am going to saw it off from and then screw the new union to the pump, right?

TIA

That's correct. You'll need to use a coupler to attach a new length of PVC to the union. Make sure you use a union compatible with your SuperFlo pump.

Thanks for your reply. I think I'm in luck with the union size as the Amazon order is a kit so it comes with it and is designed for fitting my Superflo pump.

Question: How long do I need to let the purple PVC glue cure before turning the pump on?

Here is a pic the kit I ordered. It comes with 2 sets. union.jpg

The quick coupler comes apart, so it is easy to install.

Just cut off the old union nut.

The only problem is if the tab hits the bottom of the lid when fully tightened.

You can install the nut with the lid off, but if the tab is pointing straight up, it looks like it might interfere with the lid.

PVC glue is not purple, that is PVC primer. If you get a good "blue" glue properly and use it with a primer, it will be ready to use faster than you can complete the repair and install it to the pump. If it is a warm day, give it 5 minutes, if it makes you less anxious. If cold, 10. Even a clear glue will set quickly. Just be sure to use enough to completely cover the entire area that is to be in contact with the pipe and fitting and use it on both surfaces. Since that is on the suction side, it is far less likely to leak than if it were on the outlet of the pump.
