Is that Algae?

So, you run your pump to filter, chlorinate, mix chemicals or skim. Doesn't matter what Intex says. You should run your pump as long as necessary to accomplish these tasks.

You will have to see how long you need to run the pump and SWCG to keep your FC in range for your CYA. NEVER let it get below minimum FC (or even close).

So once I get my results tomorrow morning and it doesn't drop less than 1ppm I will now need to make my SWG run enough to keep my FC within my range. I shouldn't technically need to add liquid chlorine that often, correct?

Correct. Assuming the Intex cell can create enough FC to maintain your FC.

I only use LC when I open and close my pool.

5g = .176oz, so .176oz/hr. In 3300 gallon pool, that would raise FC by .4/hour. 5 hour run time would net about 2ppm rise.

24 hours of running the cell would raise FC by 9.6. I think the cell is fine. You just need to play with run time of the pump and cell output to create enough FC to maintain in range for your FC.

Also, I just took a new sample but for some reason, I did the test twice and each test was about 1ppm off...Why is that? I used the same water from the bottle I collected the pool water with. I used 10ml sample & X .05ppm. Should I use the 25ML sample & X .2ppm?

If I get a bigger SWG I wouldn't need to run it as much and it could help save on my electric bill. Would also be more powerful to help raise the FC quicker. Maybe I should just upgrade, no? Escpaiclly with the hot south Florida sun :) Thoughts?

Do you have a speed stir?

Side story. My brother (who owned a pool for 30 years without alge) and I did back to back test. He did swirl method and I did speed stir. Our FC results (.5 increments) were 1.0 off.

Your money. I'd run it for a while and see where it nets out, then make that decision.

No but I'll buy one now on Amazon.

So if both of my tests were a bit off, how will I know if tomorrow morning's results will really be accurate since I can ONLY be 1ppm off?

So, test again.

1) swirl for 3 seconds...one one thousand...
2) Hold the bottle absolutely vertical...
3) squeeze the drops very slowly. Let the drop drop from its own weight.

Go try two back to back tests again using this technique...

Thanks!

I re-did 2 tests...The first one came back at FC 7.5 and the second one at FC 8.

Not sure I follow...So I shouldn't get one? Wouldn't it be more accurate with a SpeedStir?
Yes, that is what I said. SpeedStir makes test results sooooooo much more repeatable (accurate).

Take my SWCG, hairnets, speedstir or robot away from me and I fill in the pool...

Hahahahah got it :)

Will report back in the morning with my FC number. Thanks again!

I think you are just fine. I would say you lost .5 FC overnight.

Just maintain your pool:

And, always follow this:

Good job! Go Swim!

Intex say I need to run it 5hrs a day. So I run the pump 6 and the SWG 5hrs a day.
Ignore what they say- do what your pool needs. If you pass the oclt then you’ll know it’s not algae eating your fc but that your swg isn’t keeping up so it’s runtime needs to be increased.
