Is SWG worth it?

Are you a paid subscriber to the app?
No. But it use to let you enter a log without pay. I'm happy to support the app if it's better than the old calc.

Wow, gonna be a while to fill back up. Drained at about 50gpm, filling about 5gpm. Good time to install cell.

I haven't used Pool Math app in a while, doesn't seem to be changing after I enter something. Is it pay only now?

No change in PM status.

No charge to do calculations. You need to subscribe if you want PM to save your history.

It lets u save 1 log if not subscribed. It is definitely worth the subscription for me since u can log water exchanges, maintenance items, cost of supplies etc. as well as the testing logs. I have a spa too & the subscription allows for multiple “pools” which is nice. I can go add everything up real quick & prove to the hubs that my pool isn’t a $$ pit 😂

I use to be able to complete 1 log and it would remember it (like 2 years ago). When I change or add any numbers, nothing changes. Looks like I need to pay now for it too remember anything. Only thing I can change are in settings. I prefer the browser form, since if I'm testing and messing with my phone, fingerprint stops working (wet fingers). Don't want to ruin the phone. I'll likely buy the app, and start using paper to jot down numbers and enter in app after I'm done messing with the pool.

Looks like it's going to take a day to fill up 7000 gallons!

Ok, all full! Added 9# CYA. FC is still dark orange... guess it takes a while to come down at 55 degrees with cover (after 50% drain, must have been real high!). If it wasn't so windy today, cover would be off. Another HD trip, need more acid, ph still about 8.2. Salt going in as soon as cover is off.

You should be testing the FC with the FAS/DPD test.

With the cover on it will take a long time for the FC to come down.

The pH test is invalid if FC is over 10. So don't adjust the pH until you can get a good FC test.

Salt going in as soon as cover is off.

Stir the salt around and don't let it sit on the floor.

The app only allows one log so you either have to delete the log you have to put another set of measurements in or go into Logs and edit the log that exists. You can't change the numbers from the Overview tab.

There's a lot of people offering advice that know much more than I do so I will only add that I have found it best to only adjust one variable at a time. If you're trying to tackle CH handle that first without trying to handle Cl and pH at the same time or you'll be chasing your tail.

After draining close to 50%, my CH is still 575! My fill water must be a bit higher than 250. Cover now off, heated to 65. I have a lot of shade, so FC will take a while to come down. Think I'll drain another 10% just to get CH under 550 before finishing CYA addition. At least the pool is crystal clear!

When doing the CH test, I get pink until it starts turning purple, people for at least 10 more drops, then blue. I've added several more drops and stays blue. Fill water does the same. Fill is 10 drops (250), pool is 23 drops (575). Just want to make sure it's supposed to be purple for most of the test.

My ph if very high (at least 8.2), don't really want to mess with it until my FC comes down from 25.

You want the big 'wow' change for any test. Kinda sorta being a little different isn't it. When you do the salt test, it will be the same. Milky, milky, kinda milkier, milky, BRICK red.

Ph is invalid at 10+ FC. save your juice until 9.

I have a 13,000g pool and typically spend about $250 per year on liquid chlorine. Probably closer to $350 this coming year. I was quoted $1450 to convert to Pentair ic30, and I might need an $800 cell every 5 years thereafter plus a bunch of salt each year. 40# bags of salt seem more of a pita than 1 gallon jugs of chlorine. I don't see a payback unless I'm missing something.
Idk if I'm allowed to tell you this, but I don't see anything in the rules against it. We have a gently used ichlor 15 by Pentair for sale for $400. If you want to try swcg without paying full price. This is useful for pools up to 15,000 gallons and it works great. Its like new condition, very clean. Only used for two months at 1% running 4 hours per day. We can ship it to you anywhere.

Thanks, but bought the Edge-40, all set up ready to go.

Just have a couple questions on my new install. Finally got my FC down to 8, so I just turned it on to run 8 hours at 1/8 (lowest setting, until I see it FC drop to 4).
FC = 8
CH = 450
TA = 220 (I'm aerating)
PH = 7.2
CYA = 70
Salt = 3200
Temp = 70

Does the fraction setting run on and off, or does it run constantly at reduced power?

If it's producing, can you tell? I notice small bubbles between plates.

Other than TA, should I be doing anything else? Or turn it off until FC is 4.

Not sure about the off/on but most fluctuate.
Bubbles happen when the cell is producing.
Target 🎯 fc for cya of 70 is 5ppm. I would aim to maintain target fc or a dab above as it is good insurance.
Its no skin off the swg’s back to maintain a higher level that already exists.

SWG's sold in the US use cycle times for the % generation. They either are on generating or off and not generating.

Circupool seems to put their label on products manufactured by various companies and there is no consistency to how they operate. I don't know what the Edge cycle time is. The RJ is 180 minutes and the SJ is 120 minues.

So if it's "120 min" on 50% and on for 8 hours, it's on 60 then off 60, 4 times. So there would be no cell life benefit if run at 100% for 4 hours, right?

Just made me an aerator from PVC:
