Is SWG worth it?

I contacted SDP to see what cord comes on the Edge, he said 30" no plug. Then it hit me... my Stenner is plugged into a timed 220 outlet, I can just use that, since I no longer need the Stenner!

There you go! Unless….if you’ve got a regular acid demand convert the Stenner from LC into an MA feeder. Thats what I am about to do when I get up and running in a couple months.

If you do this….plug the MA feed downstream of everything including the swg

Great idea. My ph never seems to stay below 8, I add a quart a week just to keep it under. I've got new test chemicals coming soon, with salt kit. I know my CH is high which I'll need to get down. Hopefully I'm not just replacing bleach demand for acid demand! Acid is also getting very pricey! Is it better to balance pool and add salt before heating it up or after? I plan on turning on my heat pump soon to get it up to at least 70. Just got notice my Edge is "on the truck"!

Ive got the same sort of acid demand and am sick of manually dosing it. Thats part of what pushed me over to getting the swg was thinking i could convert the stenner to acid.

Everything I read (i.e. everything Marty writes) says that acid demand will be the same between lc and swg

Curious about "ideal" levels. Pool Math seems to differ from Edge manual. Like PM says TA 60-80, Edge says 80-120. I assume Pool Math is best?

Disregard the ideal levels. No 2 pools in the land are alike and trying to force them to be creates far more headache. Does that # tend to come up most often based on your parameters? Yes. But that doesn't change your pool. So we advise getting between 60 and 100 and simply managing the PH. The TA will find where it wants to be. Check the CSI and if it agrees, listen to your pool, not the other way around. (y)

Low TA matters when you have a SWG. Otherwise manage your pH in the 7's and let your TA reach whatever equilibrium works for your pool.

My TA is always around 90. It's my ph and CH that continually increase. Ph seems to "settle" at 8.0, CH was 800 last time I checked. Not sure why CH keeps going up with all the evaporation in Texas heat. CYA also seems to vanish by end of season.

It stays behind when water evaps. Your fill water adds more, even if its just a little, other places alot. Over time it builds.
CYA also seems to vanish by end of season.
3-5 ppm a month is about usual and even more in the heat. Then factor in rain and fill water having no CYA. It's one of those things. If you want it gone, it stays forever. If you want it to stay, you get 6 inch storm after 6 inch storm and 103 degree days in between.

Mounted! What's everyone do with the cables to the cell? Just cable for them to whatever plumbing is convenient?

Bought 10 bags of Solar Salt today. Amazon says my salt kit is in the mailbox! Is it best to add salt, then balance the pool, or visa versa? Is it ok to have salt at 3500 before finishing cell install? It may take a week or so to get pool balanced. Bought one last box of liquid chlorinator at HD while I was there since they had new stock.

Does not matter. Add the salt and get it dissolving.

Shoot for salt at 2800-3000 and test the salt level. Add 2/3 of what you think you need and wait a few days for the salt to fully dissolve and circulate before you test and add more.

You can always add more salt but if you overshoot you can only lower salt by draining water.

Once you get salt to 3000 and SWG operating you can sneak up on 3500.

Well, my CH is 650, fill water 250. What should I shoot for? 650 says in range, but 550 might be better. I need to fix this before anything since I'll be removing water. CYA zero ☹️

If you drained half the pool you can get your CH down in the 300's and leave yourself a years or more of CH rise do you don't need to do it again for a while.

Think I'll go for 2' (about 6000g). Thinking my pool may be closer to 15k rather than 13k. How the heck you figure kidney shaped pools? I have 392 sqft of surface area, with big contoured radii at bottom, going from 3' to 8' deep. I guessed 5.5' average.

Remember- Don't add any salt until you test your current level, and don't have the SWG turned on for a day while adding large amounts of salt.
I'm not adding salt until I get CH below 500. Not installing cell until all else is balanced and salt added (and gets warmer out, should be soon). Sure takes a while to drain 6000 gallons!

I haven't used Pool Math app in a while, doesn't seem to be changing after I enter something. Is it pay only now?
