It is the opinion of the majority of saltwater pool owners here at TFP.. It is also my personal opinion and based on my experience with my three saltwater pools here in the DFW area. I have seen no corrosion of any kind on my 3 pools.. They have been saltwater pools for over 10 years, with the same equipment, EasyTouch, IntelliFlo, and IC40...
So, here is my story that I have told a few times before...
I bought a rent house that had a pool. Both the house and the pool needed a total upgrade. We had the plaster redone, the waterline tile replaced and new Flagstone coping installed.. For about three years, after the upgrade, the pool was a chlorine tablet pool.. Almost immediately, some of the flagstone seemed to shed very thin layers of sand.. You could look at the stones and see that there were good stones and bad stones. Often right next to each other... My robot cleaner would pick up the sand and it did not take long for the filter basket to turn almost brown. About 10 years ago, I installed the Pentair equipment, including the IC40 salt cell. Now, 10 years later, the good stones are still good and the bad stones are still bad.. The saltwater did not make the shedding any worse or any better.
Thousands and thousands of saltwater pools are built in all the other states, but only in Texas it is said that the "evil saltwater" will eat your stone work.. Why only Texas??
In any case, that is my experience, yours may be different. All I know it that I'd just as soon fill in my three pools, if they could not be saltwater pools.
Thanks,
Jim R.
