Just take the shortest, most direct route.

We're going to tie into it at the corner of the pool. If you look directly down into the skimmer, it takes a right towards the stepout. I don't want to disturb the back fill around the skimmer box. We are already talking about bracing the decking to keep it from failing. I told my brother I don't want to experience any cracking and failure down the road because of this. We're thinking of everything to safely do this the right way after the fact.

I would go the way I described.

The deck has plenty of support going both ways.

If the pipe has already failed, then there is something wrong with it.

In any case, it's up to you to do whatever you feel is best.

That is what I would do, and I would saw cut the concrete as well. Maybe from the corners of the skimmer back to the lawn area, at a 30 degree area or so - so it looks both visually like it was on purpose, and it gives more room to work. Then you can trench and make your connection quickly, easily, and securely, pressure test the whole run, and then pour a sack or two of quickcrete and call it a day.

I was supposed to be up early and working on the site prep. I shut my alarm off n went back to bed.
Good for you. Gotta take care of yourself first. Better you tackle it rested with a clear head. errors and accidents happen when you are fatigued.

+1. You are of zero use to you, if you're busted.

I was in the ER, not hurt for once, and someone had cut their hand BAD on the 'last cut'. The ER doctor told him it was going to be his last cut either way. I always do my best to remember that when I'm pushing myself. The project might have to wait 6 months and not just a couple days.

I wonder if they make locking tops for the skimmer? That will keep anyone from taking the top off and removing the basket.
My skimmer and lid actually have a place for screws. And the lid has some type of warning about how you should screw it closed. I don't use the screws as I don't feel like dragging a screwdriver with me every time I want to check the skimmer basket. :ROFLMAO:

How deep is this on the corner and do you have any 2x4s? If this was my job, think of it as a mine shaft. Dad was a miner for 35 years. Just build trusses as you need them to block in the deck, trusses are amazing cause triangles cannot buckle with stress loads.

I added a stainless screw for my lid when my autocover "sucked" up the skimmer lid when it was opening up. Thankfully it didn't tear the cover or gum up the works it just grabbed it when the last foot or so was rolling. I got the stainless steel screw size for the skimmer from CMP and bought a pack of the screws. I walk out with a screw driver from the kitchen when I want to go check the skimmer. I actually just thought of leaving a screw driver in my autocover deckbox since there is plenty of room by the switch, so I'm gonna do that. One screw holds the skimmer lid down.

I have a cooler full of iced Gatorade and water. A towel soaked with pool water on my hand rail and digging in a bikini and muck boots.

Kids are helping to chlorinate the water by mixing it. I add 2 gallons on old 10% that went through and survived the fire. It gives me 8ppm in 20k g.

I'm only chiming in more than 1000 posts in to say - you've got this!! By all accounts you're a go-getter that doesn't take no for an answer. It sucks right now, but you'll get through it and enjoy that blissful pool you've worked so hard for!
I know why PBs and /or landscapers charge so much to do this kinda work.

I'm at the slide steps. I found a 21 yr old with adhd that wanted to help me so I paid him $160 for his time that he did helped me. I got to listen to him repeat himself but you know what... I truly appreciated that he wanted to be there with me. He did a good job once i got him situated. I was using the digging bar n he was the shoveler. We stayed cool by wrapping a wet towel around our necks and taking a break every 20 minutes. It was so hot out. Then I stripped down to my bikini n jumped in the pool with him. He wanted a pair of goggles. I'm not sure what he was lookin for but he had a smile on his face! Lol
