Imagine Illusion 40 Complete 10/19/21

always install the grates that I recommend earlier
I've scrolled and scrolled and can't find your earlier post. I want to add them to mine and can't find online, so trying to find the website and maybe get some alternate names or so. Thanks in advance for helping these old tired eyes! I know I saw it and read it earlier.

Can I just say I feel so beaten?! I don't know why I have to deal with this. I understand how it happened but dang... I just want to catch a break for once!!!

So today I'm cleaning up the tools used to work on this job. My pool yard is a mess. Then I'll be weed whacking around the pool and start digging a 2ft deep by 2 ft wide ditch from the pad to the skimmer. I'm not digging out the skimmer box. I may go to the corner of the pool to cut the line there.

2" Sch 40 is probably hard to find right now. I may buy 3 inch and reduce it down. Anyone see an issue with that? Speak now because I'm going to go to Lowes today and start looking.

No problem using 3 inch other then the added cost and a wider trench.

I'm at Lowes right now with my buddy. We're still in truck. I guess it's time to start shopping.

I have enough pieces. I'm looking for pressurized fittings now. I'm so tired just looking at this. My PB said it's unlikely that the pipe cavitated. I said it's not unlikely because it did and the pump is to great for this flex pipe n shouldn't be used. He's not convinced but I am and I'm fixing it the way I requested it the first time.

I'd also like to add that I could NEVER vacuum my pool without the vac head sucking to the bottom of the pool. I've been experiencing this for some time and the flex line had enough. It's done! Here's the line from the pad to the skimmer. I have 1 extra piece.

The angle of the pole from your position makes a huge difference. At a low angle, like when doing the shallow end, the weight of the pole wants to pull the vac head from the floor so it slides easy. When doing the deep end, the weight of the steep angle pole helps stick the vac head to the floor and it's harder to move. Getting in the pool to vac changes the physics a 3rd way.

I vac at 2000-2200 Rpms depending on how it's behaving that day.

I could never go 2 swipes without it doing it and I was running at the lowest cycle. I had tried everything to stop it from slamming to the bottom if the pool. I changed to a different vac head with wheels and it belped but my pump basket would be nearly empty but still sucking water. It's been bad but I was trying to learn it on my own instead of posting here. The flex hose was cavitating then and I didn't realize it. I was being forced to depend on my robot to clean the pool. He's pulling double duty now because my system is down.

Please excuse my ignorance, new guy here who is just learning. Also, apologies for all of my education in this thread coming at your expense, I hope things start to look up for you.

When you say the flex pipe is 'cavitating' are you referring to it deforming and pinching shut?

Yeah, i think she means its collapsing / collapsed. Cavitation is something that can happen at a pump and is the act of liquid turning to a vapor at the low pressure side of the impeller.

That makes sense to me, and is more in-line with my previous understanding of cavitation coming from the boating world.

The lines are tucked under the pool lip and has 8ft of concrete over top of it.

The line is under 8ft of concrete. I'm not busting concrete up. It's getting a whole new line on the outside perimeter. The cavitation is very close to the steps of the slide.

We took 2 50ft paracords and tied both ends to a nut. Took the fish tape and inserted it into the skimmer and ran it out the pipe at the equipment pad. Tied the paracord to eyelet in fish tape and pulled the nut through the obstruction hoping to grab it. Nothing. Tie another nut to it and pulled cord back through it, nothing. My brother added one more nut for 3 total on the cord. When he got to the obstruction it became very clear. He could hear the nuts hit evey ripple inside the flex hose. It collapsed. It's a total failure.
Casey, that's a tough problem and didn't realize you have all that concrete to deal with. I can't think of a better way than re-pipe outside and I agree with Allen. Schedule 40 is the way to go. Wish I could be more helpful and good luck!

Casey,

I get that you don't want to break up the concrete and if it does become necessary to connect directly to the skimmer consider cutting with a concrete blade. It's not really that hard to do and makes a neat cut and can be repaired to look decent with sakcrete. I've had to do this in several places where plumbing was a little off on the slab for my OB house. Luckily is was places where the concrete was 4-6" thick.
