IceShadow’s pool thread 2023

WaterGuru says 7ppm FC, testing is 8ppm. Reading a bit lower as usual. Still it is lower so reducing down the SWCG is working.

pH holding steady at 7.2. Hasn’t changed since I opened. I’m assuming the cover is preventing offgassing.

Today is supposed to be in the 60s and sunny, very little wind. I took the solar cover off, folded up best I could, and covered it with a tarp so it doesn’t get crispy.

The pool looks pretty good, though I haven’t run the robot in a few days so there’s some crud on the bottom. Robot went in to clean it up. Did have to dispose of a couple of frogs that worked their way under the cover.

And the pool cover has been hosed off (that took forever) and is back on the pool for the night to hold the heat in. Heater still set to 70 just to maintain until warmer days.

You have pool ocd & it shows! Where’s the water?
You can see it in the light - but until someone shows me a photo of their light without ANYTHING visible in front of it I'm going to believe it's impossible to get absolutely everything that would show in it. ;)

I'm working on it but it's always windy at the new place so there's always farm dust and whatnot blowing around/in. It gets better for a day and then it's right back to square 1.

Tested everything. No numbers have budged. I want my pH higher soooooo I added a box of borax. Maybe now it’ll sit at 7.5 instead of 7.2.

Why do you want it higher? Just raise your TA to 80 and see what happens. If you are equilibrium with TA 70 and ph 7.2, artifically raising pH likely won't work...good chance it will revert.

Raise your TA to 80 instead.

7.2 seems good, but I was kind of hoping for slightly higher. The feel seems better with a little higher pH. Also my CSI is very low - vinyl pool so not a huge concern but I do worry a little for the heater. May be unfounded.

Borates were testing a bit lower too, so I figured the box of Borax wouldn’t hurt.

It likely won’t stay at 7.2 once you have the cover off more & are using the pool.

Bump for more eyes on it.

The return is the screws and the rest of the area should be all PVC and gasket. I don't think they ever used metal gaskets on the skimmer and light but with the age, I guess it's possible.

It sucks it chose right now to crud out. You've seen so many conversations go off without a hitch, and raising your salt a hair in the grand scheme of things shouldn't have made a difference.

I'd go with this was going to happen right now either way. Maybe they didnt get the gaskets right with the last liner change and its has a slow leak this whole time with the wall finally bleeding through. Hang tight for more thoughts.
