OH LOVE EVERYTHING about that pool!!!

That tile is SO pretty!!! Has your wife picked out the mortar yet? SAY WHAT??? With glass tile the color of the mortar will change the look of the tile. Get some paint sample cards. White, off white, light gray, medium gray, and darker gray. Take them and the tile out to the pool. Which one does she like the best? All are pretty so there is no wrong answer.

NEXT she needs to pick out the grout. White will make each tile pop where a light to medium gray will have the blend in more. They should have grout stick for you to play with to see what you like the best. Again there is no wrong answer.

I have a set of links I put together for new pools!

Have you started bonding with the shell yet? aka watering it to help slow down the curing.

It is time for your set of links! The first set is all about what to do and ask about to get a great plaster job. The second set is all about how to care for your pool after you get the plaster.

Plaster links:
Ten Guidelines for Quality Pool Plaster Best one of all
All Plaster Finishes Should Last 20 Years
Not All Color Pigments are Good for Pools How to pick a good color for plaster.

Pool care links:
Print these out:

Bookmark these:

Now is also a good time to ask what test kit your PB will be providing so we can fill in any holes.

Haha thanks. We love the pool as well... can you believe a pool company told me it was ugly and so 80's. Than presented us with a simple rectangle pool for $60k. Laughed and told him to leave my house. At that moment I said I'm managing this build myself and here I am diy.

We didn't even think about grout color. Once we get closer I'll ask to bring some samples.

As for the shotcrete I have it on a timer/sprinkler set up for every hour since it's so hot out right now.

We are getting pebblesheen installed Aquablue to keep it bright.

The color of our pool deck will be on the light gray side with the coping more of a concrete color. So I'm thinking a white grout will look best but I'll see what the wife thinks.

Thanks for all the links, I appreciate that.

What pool vacuum is best from your experience?

See?! That's a couple who understand each others strengths, Good on you! (gorgeous tile!)
Haha I've been with my wife since elementary school. We practically grew up together. Split for 2 years in high school and ever since been together and now with 2 kiddos. Girl 5 and boy 10. COMPRIMISE is the KEY to succeed. 24+ years. Not bad for us only being 34 lol.

Looks like you are well on your way.
With dark, glass tile, be sure to think about what the hard water in your area will do. Do you have a whole house water softener? I highly suggest you hook your auto fill system to the water softener. Without, the CH of your pool water will rise quickly and water line scale will be an issue.

Yes our home has softened water but we avoided connecting to our auto fill. Scale isn't terrible to maintain. As long as we stay on top of it.

Your CH will double each year, at least. I highly recommend connecting the autofill to softened water.

Let me translate that for you:
That is harder and more expensive for us to build so here is what is easy and cheaper for us to build.

GLAD you sent them on their way!!
that make sense. what a shame that people follow thru with there advice. any advice/recommendation on a pool vacuum?

Opps! Sorry about that........................was having so much fun translating I forgot to answer the vacuum question.

You cannot use a vacuum with wheels on it for the first 30 days with new plaster. The wheels can leave tracks on the plaster.

For start up and when you need to spot clean you will want to get a manual setup:
-hose that will reach from skimmer to both ends of the pool
-butterfly vacuum head with bristles instead of wheels
-Skimmer plate to attach the hose to like this:

Just make sure to get one that will fit on YOUR skimmer.

Once the 30 days are up you can get a robot to clean your pool for you. Our go to place to get robots from is:
Home - Marina Pool Spa & Patio Make sure to call them on the phone. Tell them what your pool is like and what you want to the cleaner to do. If you buy it over the phone you maintain the full warranty.

Thank you for your help. Would've never thought the plaster would be damaged by the robot, but good to know.
