High CYA, first time LC user

So you went from 18 FC after dusk yesterday to 10 FC at 7am - probably some sun on the pool by then but that's a pretty big drop for just an hour or two of sun. The chlorine is still killing things for sure. Keep the FC elevated and let it do its job! Test as often as life allows and add more FC back to SLAM level when you do. Keep brushing/vacuuming/filtering. :)
Here’s the latest - I’m 29 gallons of 12.5% in at this point. Needed 2 gal this morning but only had 1 so that’s why I added 1 gal at first then added the second after a trip to the store.

I’m starting to worry about running out of reagent now that my FC is starting to hold. Im probably halfway through the big bottle. Do you guys recommend dilution with distilled water or just doing 5 ml or stick with standard? I don’t have distilled water on hand.

5ml is fine when you're up above 10ppm of FC. Just use a 10ml sample when you're doing the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. Might be a good idea to get more of the reagent on order though...

Have you taken your ladder out and cleaned the inside of the tubes? That was the place mine was hiding.

Do you have a light?

There is a non-functioning light under the diving board I was told would be $700 to replace so I left it alone. I have never installed / removed the ladder, I pay someone to open / close. There is also a booster pump return? that was plugged at open because I got a dolphin. I guess I can try cleaning the ladder I assume it’s easy to remove.

Can you take a photo of just the light? It might be nicheless, or it could be in a niche and that niche could be algae-filled...

That’s a nicheless light, no worries there.

The ladder might be a concern as mentioned.
Found some rust on the bottom rung of the ladder. Could that be the culprit? I assume I should leave the ladder out until this process is over.

It’s the inside of the tubes to worry about. Does the end that goes down into the pool have rubber stops? Those should be temporarily removable and then you can brush out the inside. May need a flexible brush.

Yes I removed the stops and cleaned the inside with a sponge wet with tap water.

Gonna leave the ladder out until I have time to give it a proper cleaning. I scrubbed the wall really good where the ladder used to be. Question - how much FC should I expect to lose during the sunlight hours in a completely clean pool? Or are there too many variables to answer that? Here are my evening activities.

Here’s my morning test progression - looks like I might be able to pass OCLT in a couple days.
6/27: 0 FC, 0.75 CC
6/28: 10 FC, 1 CC
6/29: 14.5 FC, 0.75 CC
6/30: 18 FC, 0.5 CC

SLAM levels of chlorine will lose a lot more FC to the sun than when it's down in maintenance levels. You lose more FC to the sun the higher concentration of FC is in the pool. That's why the maintain part of "SLAM" is important - gotta keep replacing what the sun eats up to keep that FC level up where it's keeping any algae dead.
