Hi everyone, i have a 5 yr old hayward swim pure plus system with an aftermarket t15 cell that was purchased last year and worked fine. This yr opened the pool was green shocked it and cleared up pretty good water tested in store a few times chemicals are all good and within range salt is at 3310 ppm as tested in the store and on my test strips, system reads 4000 average salt and -4100 instant salt no trouble lights on the board power light and generating light on but cant seem to get a chlorine reading in the pool, shocked the pool numerous times but after a while chlorine just seems to disapate,, any ideas

Welcome to the forum!
You need to follow the SLAM Process. To do that, you need a proper test kit. I suggest the TF-100 or Taylor K2006C. A proper test kit is needed to get the accurate water chemistry results needed to follow the TFP protocols.

While you are waiting on your test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine / plain bleach to your pool each evening with the pump running. This will replenish the FC lost each day to the sun and also inhibit any algae in the water from growing further.
I suggest you read through Pool Care Basics - Trouble Free Pool and even look at a few of our videos TFP-TV - Trouble Free Pool

Welcome to TFP! TFP is a place where we encourage pool owners to take control of their pool simply by testing their own water with a proper test kit for accurate results - either a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C. Do not be deceived by the pool store name in lights, They commonly recommend generic industry levels that do not take into account a multitude of pool variables, and their testing is often times flawed. To make matters worse, the clerks who work the counter are often times seasonal, and even the long-time employee may not truly understand water chemistry. They just repeat the company recommendations from a computer printout.

TFP can help. A proper test kit with some reliable numbers and we can get you through anything. Also be sure to update your signature. See ours as examples. Enjoy the forum. :swim:

Not an algae problem salt water system problem
For salt testing we recommend the Taylor K-1766 drop test kit. Even with its accuracy, don't expect a test kit to match exactly to what your SWG shows. Those are a bit wonky and can be off by 200 - 400 ppm, sometimes more.

What folks are trying to explain is that it is an algae problem, and the cell can't overcome the problem...even if your chemicals are right and the pool is clear. Pool can be clear and still have algae.

The fact that you cannot keep FC in the water, something (algae) is consuming it.

As Marty and Pat shared, you need to get your own test kit and either do an OCLT to prove it's not algae, or start a SLAM.

Ahhhh thank you sorry i misinderstood the initial responses i will try the slam process
Great choice. Get your test kit ordered today. Add 5ppm of chlorine per day until it comes. This will keep algae at bay.

In parallel, I would do the diagnostic on the cell that Marty provided. To confirm or deny the cell is working.

Proof is in the pudding...How Clear is TFP Clear?

Put Pool Math on your phone. Link-->PoolMath

Use your TFP login and you can enable log sharing (we can see your chemical results here....click my name)

Configure your pool and use the "Effects of Adding" function.

It is dependent on your pools size....if you configure your signature it will help us help you.
