Help!!! Motor Screws Won't Budge!

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to take out my motor for shaft seal replacement. I was able to take out the top two screws but I cant take out the bottom two screws. They seem to be almost welded together. :brickwall:

I tried to do some maneuvering, but it only seems to smooth out the edges of the screws. I am scared that the more i fight with it, the screws will go from a hexagon to a circle. I have tried wrench, ratchet, wrench+hammer etc. etc.

How do I take them out? Any suggestions would be nice.

If you can see the thread nuts on the opposite side of the bolt head, you might try
spraying some wd-40 or penetrating oil stuff on them and let sit overnight.

I've gotten a lot of tough bolts loose that way.

You have to remove the impeller before you remove the screws holding the motor to the seal plate.

The impeller is basically a big nut and the motor shaft is a bolt. So, to remove the motor, you have to unscrew the impeller first.

There's an impeller screw in the center of the impeller that you have to remove before removing the impeller. It's reverse thread.

Hold the shaft from the back to remove the screw and then the impeller.

The screws can get seized due to corrosion.

You need to put a socket on the screw and turn until they break loose.

It's highly likely that the threaded grommets in the seal plate will break before releasing the screws.

If that happens, you will need a new seal plate.

PB Blaster, wait an hour. PB Blaster, wait an hour. PB Blaster go to bed...... Morning time, 6 pt socket, breaker bar, and hammer. Frozen/corroded bolts (well any blots really) need to be "shocked" loose. In the case of frozen/corroded bolts it is done with rapping the hammer on the wrench, rachet, breaker bar (preferred). Heat is another helper, but not here with the plastic housing.

PB Blaster is way better than WD-40. PB Blaster is an actual penetrating oil unlike WD-40. Impact wrench/driver helps too, or maybe try a breaker bar. Also, just to be sure we are talking about the same thing, maybe take a pic of the bolts you are trying to remove.

This morning I opened a steel hopper window, that I know has been closed for at least 20 years, last time I tried was 12 years ago..PB did the deed!
