Hello, I live just north of Philadelphia, Pa. Inherited a pool with purchase of home. It is 3.5ft to 5.5ft deep, 20,500 gallons. Unfortunately, it is a bromine pool, trying to figure out what we are gonna do with it. previous owner had the pool for her dogs, but we want the pool to be safe for us and our kids.

Suggest you do a complete filter clean. You can ask for guidance if you can provide mfg and model of the filter. If the dogs were in the pool then the filter most likely has a lot of dog hair.
Also, a good start to managing your pool is to do your own testing It is important to have a good test kit.

If you wish to go back to a chlorine pool. It will require a 100% drain of your water. there are several good articles on the forum if you search. Here is one
Draining bromine spa into chlorine pool - bad idea?
I'm probably being laughed at for even asking this question, but I was just curious. When the time comes to change our spa water, is it a bad idea to drain it into our chlorine (BBB) pool? Will the left over bromine eat up my pools chlorine?
