Hello all! Looking for some help...SLAM Complete (THANKS!) Balance Time!

+1. It will do its thing and clog the filter quick when it’s just dead algae. If the algae is still growing, it will probably clog as fast as you can add the DE.

But once it’s just lightly cloudy, have at it. (y)

I added 1/4 cup diluted in a bucket as suggested and the filter bumped up about 1 psi. Checked it 30m later it was +4 psi. Just checked now and was +9 psi and backwashed and added more!

Still doing the SLAM here and did several rounds of DE today since I have a bunch of it anyway. Definitely looking clearer but no bottom yet. At least it's only 58 out so no pressure for pool this weekend haha

Got any pics ?
How often are you adding chlorine ?
Are you verifying a bit after adding that you reached your target ?

It sounds like you’re doing an amazing job babysitting it. (y)

Hello again!

I have been checking and adding about every 2-3 hours. Usually would drop around 2-3 ppm each time and would top it off.

Today I was away for the day and it was down to 13 when I got home. So back up to 24! I am starting to see the bottom now so moving right along! The DE definitely speeds it up when I use it!

Weather is going to start to warm up later this week so will be doing lots of DE and backwashing tomorrow to speed it up haha!

Hello again all!

I decided to check my CYA level again today and see it is now 30. Should I adjust my SLAM FC levels now? Is the CYA reading accurate at high FC? Last reading was 22 FC.

Also TA reading. Why do we need to wipe the tip with a Dang cloth? I must know!

I am in your same climate zone. I also had to clean up a bunch of goo this year due to the weird winter weather.

You are almost there! You are going to love how your water looks, and how easy your pool is going to be to care for!

Sorry for the long update delay! Crazy week here but my SLAM is complete! Now I am on to the balance side of things and was looking for even more advice!!

FC: 4.5
pH: 7.2
TA: 90
CH: 125
CYA: 30

So my big question is the pH. App says to add Borax which I have but then my TA is telling me to reduce PH and aerate to increase pH? What route is best?

I will also be adding more CYA to boost the level to my goal of 45ppm

Nice job on the SLAM. Relax a bit now your numbers are fine. Keep your FC on the high side of your target range for your CYA FC/CYA Levels Test your fill water for TA to anticipate trends after topping off for evap and splash out. Your pH should rise over time, monitor and enjoy your clear pool now. Monitor your daily FC loss before raising your CYA. Maybe you should deep clean your sand filter.

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice on pH! I would have probably attempted to get it all in the "ideal" range not thinking about the slow climb of the season!!

I will keep the FC level up!

Very nice work! That's what I'm talkin' bout! That looks like a TFP pool! You should submit that pic to thread:

All of these skills will transfer if you ever decide to go in-ground...

Edit: I see you have already posted there before .. show them your work!

I will post over there for sure!

Yes our next home we have an in-ground on the must have list! Planning to move in the next year or so :)

I will add now I have this new strange obsession to see just how clear I can get this water haha. I mean it is clear but I think I can get it even more clear! Does that make sense or am I going crazy?

The problem with that is that your water will get so clear that you will notice every speck of dirt on the bottom and obsess about it! :laughblue:

I cannot speak to your mental well-being... I also have several of childrens ;)

If you really want to go for "even more clear" try putting a little DE in your sand filter if you have one, or a skimmer sock around your skimmer basket, or both. Every time I take out my skimmer sock, it looks like the Swamp Thing used it for a washcloth, or an adult diaper ... :puker:

There is also a microfiltration product that attaches to a return called The Slime Bag .. I've never used one but a lot of people here seem to like them.

A good clarity "rule of thumb" is to drop a quarter in the deep end and see if you can tell if it is heads or tails when the pump is off.
