Hayward S240 filter cracking - replacement?

As stated, my s240 filter is starting to crack. I have an 18K gallon in ground with a 1 hp pump (115/230v). What would be the best type of filter to replace it with? The 240 does well during season, it's just leaking bad in places. Thought I might get away with getting a smaller filter as opposed to the 300 lb sand monstrosity - it is ugly and large. Any advice will be appreciated.

I am pretty sure you would really regret getting a smaller filter. You say the 240 does "well" so you certainly don't want to change what is working for you.

Bigger is better......that is never more true with pool filters.

You could look into cartridge or DE filters, but as Dave said, you're still going to need a big one to handle an 18,000 gallon pool so it's not going to look any better.
