Hayward 400FD CE Error & Aqualogic Control Issue

Good day all,

I am hoping someone can help me. I have done a number of repairs of my system, as of late. One of those was fixing the dreaded CE error which I managed to fix with a new keypad and board for the heater. The issue I am having is that before replacing the board in the heater, I could leave the heater in bypass and when I hit spa or pool on my remote and turned on the heater, it would flip the heater to spa or pool heat mode.

After replacing the board it doesn’t seem to matter whether I push pool or spa on the remote it always jumps the heater to the pool heat temp setting. I can manually flip the heater to spa mode and it takes it to spa temperature with no issue.

One other small issue, the heater is saying it is heating to 104, but the spa isn’t that hot. I replaced the heat exchanger a couple of weeks back, could that have anything to do with it?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to TFP.

When in BO mode the heater control panel temperature settings should not be used. The temperature should be set at 104F on the heater.

All temperature control comes from your Aqualogic and its water temperature sensor.

What temperature does the Aqualogic say the spa is when the heater says it is 104F?

Measure the actual temperature of the spa with a cooking thermometer to determine which temperature sensor is off.

Perfect so I just push the heater to 104 for both pool and spa. I will give it a shot now. Your help is very appreciated.

So I just went out, on the heater the spa is set to 104f. I can only take the pool setting to 90f maximum.
Set the heater on SPA at 104 then put it in bypass BO.

The heater does not know or care if it is heating water for the pool or spa.

So this still isn’t working. On the Aqualogic I have the spa set to 104, I have the pool setting at 90. If I turn the heater to bypass and turn the pool to spa, turn the heater on, it is heating only to the heater pool max of 90. The bypass and pool light on the heater is on. Does the temperature on the heater have to be defaulted off to be fully controlled by the Aqualogic?

You want SPA light on the heater in bypass, not POOL.

Take the heater out of bypass, set it to SPA, and then put it in bypass.
I am really sorry about this. If I hit the mode button on the heater, it goes from standby to spa to pool. I must be completely missing something, thing because I have no way to make the jump from spa to standby without cycling it through pool.

Press the MODE key after you are in bO to change to SPA.

Or you can change the POOL maximum temperature to 104F…

Apologies. I went out, when I toggle the mode I can go from bypass to spa to pool. I cannot go from bypass to spa without ogling across pool. I am going to see if a wire got knocked off, the system automatically switched from bypass to pool or spa from bypass before the board was replaced. Pretty sure I have the three wire option, not the two.
