Grout mishap for Pool of Doom

Looks like they only got one coat done? That was a horrible underestimate...

It’s over two coats - and on brand new plaster. The original shell is not great plus all sorts of reflections in the photo. It looks better in person!

What do you think of the color? I can’t believe I’m not getting to see it in water tonight. [emoji20]

Forgot to tell you he does thicker coats than most. I think he said .4? Also said the plaster was soaking up more than he expected.

Whatever the case, it is what it is. Ha - I guess this also might be a case of not wanting to have extra of this color on hand!?

I’m actually loving the color. But want to see it underwater!!!!!

Hi Kim - he did after we pestered him. I *know* it’s been a tough summer with all the rain and he’s playing catch-up, but I selfishly want to swim in OUR pool before winter. It’s like a huge joke. Our friends just roll their eyes. Some people think we just don’t want to have people over - because NO ONE’s pool takes this long. It’s beyond crazy at this point.

If it ever happens I will let you know! :)

I just met Tony, seems to be a really nice guy. We are getting a quote on our new construction pool for aqua right finish. Any new pics?

How did it turn out? I hate you have had a hard time with your remodel but hope it turns out great in the end

Hi everyone - rather than coming on here and continuing to complain about our crazy renovation, I’ve just stayed away. We were completed and filled - just in time for the first day of Autumn. [emoji119] But stilllllllll waiting on the gas co to upgrade our gas meter so we can turn on our new heater. It’s only 77 degrees in the water today! This is the first clear, sunny day we can even be out with the pool. Surprised that the Viking (hubby) hasn’t jumped in, but I can’t even dip my toe into the water. Grrrrrrrrr.

Once we do a little clean-up today I will try to get some photos. The pool has turned out beautifully - and the finish is the nicest I have ever seen. Truly! Our EcoFinish contractor has been absolutely great and we were also able to contract through him to install our new salt system, new light, new heater and Screenlogic! Hey - we’ve come this far .... go big or go home! [emoji119]

Thank you for all of your kind words and checking in with me. Photos soon! Hope to have the decking all pressure-washed in next couple of weeks, furniture out ..... so please excuse in the meantime.

Orthopod - Tony is THE nicest guy. Truly a man of his word. Of all the people we’ve met in “real life,” in this industry, he has been completely honest and trustworthy. We can recommend him with no reservations!

I hope everyone understands that our crazy delays had nothing to do with anything than a bout of ill-advised DIY, bad luck, bad timing and bad weather.

Sitting here today ..... all of the crazy and bad is melting away.

Please keep me updated with your project!

AMYJO!!!! You did it! You have your pool with such pretty water in it!!!! SWEET! Too bad it is too burrrrrrrr to get in. Mine it getting close to being too cool for me with all of our rain.

That came out SO pretty! I love the aquabright color! And those tiles are soooooooooooooooo BLING!!!!

 on the trees! How do you even see the surface of the pool at all with all of the leaves that must drop! How often do you have to clean out the skimmer basket?

I am SO glad to hear you found Tony! Sounds like he really came through for you! Nice to hear you give the green light to passing on his name to orthopool!

This pool was truly a test of patience for you and yours. I am glad you are on this side of it. Now to get that heater going so you can really enjoy it!

Have you decided on the handholds, rail, whatever you want to call it by the steps? We had come up with some wild/neat ideas way back when.

I am so happy for you!!!

Wow! Just wow, on a number of levels! Firstly, the pool and finish is beautiful! I don’t think I’ve seen a finish like it. Secondly, wow because you are actually finished. I am so glad you actually love it after all you’ve been through, not just with the pool. A huge congratulations!

Amy!!!! Woo Hoo!!!! OMG, I can hardly believe your pool is finally finished -well, enough to put water in it! It looks amazing, and your tile is fantabulous! Put a wet suit on and get on in! Not really, but here's hoping the heater gets going soon.

I believe you are one of the most patient people I know and now as you say, all the troubles are melting away which means you are extremely forgiving!

Please keep in touch and more pictures please - especially with your fur baby in the pool pics.

I am so very, very happy for you!

Hello all. I’m not sure if anyone will even see my post at the end of this thread from last year? The system is telling me to start a new one, but it would take soooo long to explain. Well - it’s basically a year later and we are able to swim. The EcoFinish is fantastic and I can not recommend it enough. However - the doom continues. Because we took off the white plastic strip just under our existing coping (apparently left from the forms used to form the coping), a large gap was left between the coping and the waterline tile. Our tile guy (the second one with “so much experience”) was to have tiled over it. Because everything was finished so late last year, it all looked ok and we couldn’t use the pool, thus couldn’t really see under the coping ... we did not realize this guy had caulked a HUGE caulk line above the tile line. In fact, he used caulk to fill the gap inside as well. We now have caulk peeling and rolling off into the pool - and a long area where the tile is BUCKLING and coming off. Oh - and lots of cracked tiles where the expansion joints were grouted (not caulked, ‘cause that was used for the inch + line above the tile). It is all HORRENDOUS. I finally caved and got in this week, but my heart hurts with all the ugliness. We have heard from our contractor but not the tile installer. We asked that the work be done after Labor Day - but am honestly afraid we need to start over with the tile. For the third time. So ..... tonight while floating and looking at every single tile (I can’t help it. It’s an obsession now), I’m trying to figure out how new tiles can be placed on top of the existing tile. It’s not quite large enough for a whole tile (these are 1” x 1” glass mosaics) and it occurred to me that instead of tile .... maybe we could do lighting stripe under the coping which would cover this area? I’ve found Pal Lighting who does an UL listed LED strip for this purpose. The size would be perfect - BUT - I’m not sure I will like it. Has anyone seen this installed in person? I’m afraid it will look like we have a neon edged pool at night. Any thoughts on this would be very welcome!

Hope all of you are doing well. I’ve actually tried to log on for months, but kept getting error messages from Tapatalk.

Thanks for “listening!”
- Amy
