Grout mishap for Pool of Doom

As luck would have it on what appears to be last really hot day of August ..... our pool finally gets cleaned and prepared today for the final EcoFinish Aquabright finishing tomorrow. [emoji119]

What you see in these photos is new plaster that was completed months ago and had to be filled until our installation could be scheduled .... and postponed .... and postponed ...... and postponed. The weather here has been very erratic with lots and lots of rain, so we never even got to get IN the pool.

Almost everything that could go wrong with this renovation has gone wrong. By not hiring experienced subs initially, it has cost us much in terms of not just money, but time .... and two entire summers lost. It’s been so depressing that I haven’t been on here in a while.

Through this process I have also had to learn to live with imperfection and all sorts of mishaps along the way. The one bright spot, no pun intended, is our very professional - and very busy - EcoFinish installer. I’ve picked an unusual color for the finish which he has never done .... so please join me in crossing lots of fingers that tomorrow goes well! [emoji120]

I’m so happy to see an update from you! It has been a long hard process for you. It’s so good to see the end in sight. The pool is looking fabulous! The steps and waterline especially. Fingers crossed for you that the last little bit is smooth sailing.

Thank you so much! It’s been so ridiculous. Nice to have someone else be enthusiastic. Thank you!!

AMYJO!!!!!!!!!!! It is TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are they there yet??????????????

I only wish I could be there with you so we could jump and down with joy and happiness together! I so hear you on the weather and rain! I have had to drain my pool so many times I had to keep adding CYA all summer long. Oh and the pH has been a battle as well.

AMYJO! I have tears of happiness for you!!! It is REALLY happening!!!! Oh happy day

Thank you thank you! We didn’t think it was going to .... thus the still not pressured washed decking and wild forest taking over the courtyard ....

Freaking out - but in a good way!

Plus, have I mentioned the wayward roofers showed up at the same time? [emoji126]?[emoji126]

Pool finish AND roofers showing up at the same time????????? Talk about over load!!!!

Kim:kim:

Tell me about it! At least six guys on the roof banging and hammering .... pool finish still progressing (three coats + drying in between).... and the smell is honestly making me nauseous. I never considered that. So much for this fun day at home working ..... but the pool is getting finished!! [emoji119]

OF COURSE this could not possibly go 100% right and be ready by Labor Day. Oh no. That would be too easy, right?? Too much fun? Too much to wish to have one little holiday in our pool?

Our installer underestimated the amount of material needed to complete the pool and now needs another box - which cannot get here until Friday at the earliest - and the forecast is rain for the rest of the week - so that means Tuesday for installation ..... because this coming Monday (Labor Day) is the day most people want to lounge around a POOL and they are off.

Hard to be too upset with him though. He’s a really nice guy and worked so hard yesterday and today. I didn’t bother to ask why the underestimation (due to my crushed hopes and dreams of just hearing of the delay), but my guess is the fact that our pool has a crazy depth of 58 inches. No one ever expects it to be that deep.

Oh, and we are not done .....

The roofers finally installed our new gutters and the hammering made one of our lightbulbs (installed in a can light under the overhang - that apparently did not have a lens in it according to code) come loose, bounce off the deck and shatter.

Wait for it ..... ba-dum-dum ....
