I have balanced water, shock, and scrub regularly, water is clear. I’ve had the look 10 years and just this year I’ve had these green spots showing up in my pool. They can fade slightly with vigorous brushing. One came free today and feels like algae/lichen growth. Wondering if anybody has came across this!

There's no magic involved and your chlorine dipped below min and algae is appearing. Plain and simple.

If your water is properly sanitized, there is no need to 'shock' it back to life. There's also no algae appearing.

Yes, hardness 200, free chlorine 5, cyanuric 30-40, alkalinity was low at 40’ish, ph 7.6
Does FC dip below 5 regularly? That’s really close to minimum for your CYA - I would shoot for high end of your target range or a point higher. CYA of 30 vs. 40 does make a difference - you need to narrow that down so you can shoot for the right FC level.

Maybe that’s what I’ll do. Yes FC is sometimes below 5, and yes the spots are slimy, and I’ve always had the test kit but since I’ve had my kid cleaning my pool I got strip and less accuracy. Thanks for input, I’ll update after SLAM
