green pool, high copper questions

In any case, a full, proper SLAM will get you back to clear.

I don't know what the copper levels are.

You can SLAM and take your chances with copper stains or do a drain and refill to get rid of any copper before doing a SLAM.

Note: Never drain the pool without making sure that it will not float.

cant see past the 2nd step and there are particles floating in this green water.

Then I have to agree with everyone else, the evidence doesn't point to copper as the culprit. Green cloudy water with floating particles almost always points to organics.

One copper test says 0.2 ppm and the other test says 1.6 ppm.

One phosphate test says 2,500 ppb and the other says 0 ppb.

If the tests were accurate and reliable, the numbers would be the same or at least close.

Can you see the bottom of the pool when the sun is shining on it? Copper doesn't make water cloudy, so if it is copper then you should be able to see the bottom.
The reason I thought of copper is bc all the test show it, but I had pool deck work done that may be contributing to the pool disaster. I just know that shocking the pool did make it appear more green and Iwas told never to do that with high copper because it oxidizes it like the statue of liberty and could cause me more problems.

To me it is pretty clear that you need to SLAM.

First, you need your own test kit Link-->Test Kits Compared

When you get your test kit, follow this process Link --> SLAM Process

Until you have your test kit and start the slam, add 5ppm of chlorine a day.

its actually 2 not .2 and i had the same number at 3 different pinch a penny stores. The leslies test started at 2.5 and has decreased but stood at the 1.6-7 to long for me to believe what they said to do was effective.

ok, its been slammed!
Please, take the time to go to the SLAM link and read through the process, you have not completed a SLAM. Might take a few days, might take a bit longer. It is what will clear the pool of algae. This is the first order of business. We need to get your pool sanitized and algae free before we can help you with whatever else is going on with the pool.

Everyone here that is trying to help you has years of experience with this type of situation. Understand...we are trying to help you. We have cleared 100s of thousands of pools collectively. Lots of proof here LINK-->How Clear is TFP Clear?

Yes, and I truly appreciate it. I am so glad I found this place, I know you all are truly trying to help and not sell me products at outrageous prices.

It happens, especially in Florida.

I seen that! I have lakefront and my pool is on a hill less than 50ft from the lake right now but one of the pool guys I talked to says that the pool will be lighter and less risk of popping. I cant trust any of them but I have decided that this is my last pool even though it has been nearly maintenance free for the most part .. this latest is just to much for me.

I have to say this entire thread seems hopelessly confusing and it's all because we do not have a valid set of test results.

lilyjo, let me say this..if you want your pool back to clear you must stop throwing things in the pool when you don't know what is the real issue.....because neither do we for certain.

The only thing that will help you make progress is a complete set of test results from one of the test kits suggested. While you are waiting for your kit please read Pool Care Basics and ask any questions you may have.

Once you provide those test results, you will then SLAM your pool precisely as the SLAM article indicates and your pool will clear.......I promise. Forget copper and forget all the peripheral, confusion in this thread.

1. Get one of the kits we suggest
2. Get a pool store test for iron and report the results here
3. Read Pool Care Basics and gain a better understanding of the basics.....including how to SLAM the pool
4. Post the complete test results from your new kit and we will all help interpret those results.
5. Then, SLAM your pool

Forget copper and all the other guesswork that we all have done. Don't do or add ANYTHING that is not in the specific advice of this forum. You have an easy issue that has been complicated by guessing and stabbing in the dark.
