Goodyear, AZ (EMR) O/B Pool Deliberations - UPDATE - Pool is Filled!

Good News! I received a partial approval for the pre-gunite inspection. It's only partial because my jurisdiction requires another steel inspection for grottos/waterfalls before they receive shotcrete, but it means I can move forward again.

Plumbers also arrived this morning to fix the heater connections, but I am going to have to wait until later to double-check the correction.

For some reason, I didn't see any colored tags in my permit pack, just signed notes from the inspector.

I didn't even think about the loose pebbles that will end up in there! Are you finding a lot of silt in it, especially after a monsoon or haboob?
Not really sure because I don't pay much attention to that. The equipment is my husband's job 😉. I just remember how full it was after plaster.

This may be a dumb question, but at what point do I need to backfill? The obvious answer is before decking, but I want to run some conduit and PVC for lighting, audio, and irrigation prior to decking, and would like to leave the holes open until I do that. I would also need to obtain either sand or clean dirt for the initial part as my soil is quite rocky and I do not wish to risk a puncture or break.

So, do I need to backfill before shotcrete?

Looks like I should be fine to backfill right before decking. Spent yesterday morning cutting down a couple of pieces of rebar that were sticking up above the bond beam reinforcement, digging out the dirt that fell while roughing in the pool lights, and bending back tie wires that were sticking out.

Also found this fun little item while I was in the hole. Looks like they just buried the spent blasting caps and lines. Had to cut off a few pieces of orange line that were sticking into the pool from the excavation.

Finally moving forward again.

Some good news this morning. Shotcrete is now scheduled for April 12th (1 week from today)!

Getting that trade lined up has been very difficult in my area, so I am very glad to finally be on the calendar. I guess I will need to figure out which test kit to go with pretty soon.

Glad to hear you finally got shotcrete scheduled.

Just checked with the weather for my shotcrete date. It's already in the 90s here and will reach 97 on Saturday 🥵. But, cools down to 73 on Tuesday and stays in the 70s for a couple of days.

Really hoping it happens on Tuesday now.

That would be great. We hit a similar great patch to cure for the first week. Even a little rain.

Good News! Shotcrete guys showed up on the day we were scheduled! They are out there prepping. We talked about leveling the skimmer, umbrella sleeve for baja ledge location, baja ledge and step depths, pool depths and measuring depths to the waterline. The owner is actually out for this job. It's 64 degrees out, so good weather today for shotcrete.

Thanks, Kim,

I really appreciate how you always add these links for us. I'll be reading them again, but paying close attention this time as it now will actually apply to me! :)

While you have seen many promotion ceremonies, you have now been knighted yourself, so this one was special. :)

I was going for surgery a while back and she PM'd me 'my own set of links' for the recovery stages. That link lady is a TFP treasure.

Which test kit would be better for me? I know I will need the salt test, so looking at either:
  • TF-100, plus Smart Stir, Plus TF-100 Salt ($151), or
  • TF-Pro with Salt with SmartStir ($170)
Thanks!
