Getting antsy...

I don’t have that much baking soda. I’ll make a Costco run tomorrow. I have a 36” shear descent water fall that I leave on during the day. Does that help like pointing the jets up?

The sock is doing good. Probably a 1/4 of it left. I’ll just leave it hanging in there over night. That takes a few days to register right? Does it start working even if it doesn’t show on the test?
You can use any one of these -

They can all be found at the grocery store, Walmart etc. whichever of these u can find will work. They are good to have on hand & won’t go to waste because if u don’t use them for the pool they have many household uses 😄
The goal is to raise ta & subsequently ph -
Be sure to test again before adding anything as the plaster curing & water features can increase ph some overtime.
Let us know what product u find & your updated ph & ta & we’ll go from there.
Since u are not 100% sure about your volume yet & your ph is likely lower than is measurable - raising TA incrementally is the best/safest route.

I plan on grabbing some baking soda today. Should I go with 4 lbs to start? How volatile are these swings in chem levels over time? It seems pretty roller coaster-y right now. Is that because it’s so new? I’ll test everything again before I add anything.

Bjs/Cosco/Sam's has it in 13 lb bags for $7. Treat yo self. It never goes bad and if it clumps from moisture you whack it on the ground like a bag of ice and it's brand new.

Its roller coastery because dude over dosed your pool with acid. You are unsure of your pool volume.
We don’t intend to make the same mistake with increasing TA - so start with 4# of baking soda (but buy more) - let it circulate & retest. Then based on the rise u get you can add more to get to the 50-60 ta range.
Since you only just started using the fas dpd you don’t have an accurate idea of what each measured dose of bleach is actually resulting in so u can better know the volume. You need to dose with liquid chlorine/bleach now & continue daily to reach a target of 5ppm based on the fas/dpd test or algae will grow & we want to avoid that.

Thanks all - is the 5 ppm for the fas/ dpd test only? The target everywhere I read is 1-3 ppm. I just did the easy test and the cya before I have to run to work. Cya is 30. Is that good? Paperwork says less than 50. Ph seems to be getting close.

Disregard anything written, anywhere on the planet, unless it's written here : FC/CYA Levels

Then both us, and the paperwork are happy. (y) We reserve the right to disagree with paperwork, or whatever clorox says on the bag of CYA, etal.

I think @Gnarbrah is referring to the pool startup paperwork the PB provided (shown in post #38). Still in the first 30 days from initial fill/plaster cure, if I remember correctly.

Yup. And at this point, we agree with it. We will reserve the right for otherwise on day 31, regardless of the source. :ROFLMAO:

Correct! So we're good with CYA of 30? I actually have a level that is acceptable??? Hallelujah!! So what's the consensus on my ph? I imagine it will rise a touch today. Can my kid finally cannon ball?
I'll be checking everything again this afternoon when I bring the baking soda home.

I do see it heading in the right direction. Keep that overflow running and it just may be in the 7s and she can cannon ball!
I’ll be testing again this afternoon! Is my thinking correct that if the ph is still a little low the addition of the baking soda will give me my “small” change in ph and get me in the sweet spot?

Wow what a weekend so far! LOTS of pool time and it’s awesome! Lots of questions though. So my chlorine pretty much disappears every day. It was below .5 this morning so I added 20oz and I’ll test a little later. Ph had gone up to 8.2 from 7.4 yesterday. I added 20oz of acid for that. I added a little over 4 lbs of baking soda yesterday. Ta went up to 50 from 20. Should I go with another 4lbs to try and hit my “80-100” goal on the paperwork?
I think I understand the chlorine getting depleted daily as my cya is pretty low and it’s sunny and hot! But is it normal for my ph to keep swinging like this? Is it a new plaster thing?
