First time slammer, checking in

Hi, MD. I scrolled through the last few pages, but didn’t see a full set of test results. If you can stand to do it, please let your FC drop to 10 or under and get an accurate PH reading. Also, CYA. I’m wondering if yourCYA is off and you haven’t been targeting the right FC.

p.s. I’m about an hour away from you!

What i had purchased must have been for a daggom kiddie pool!! Went back to Lowe's, got a 14 in head and 36 ft hose and boy what a difference!! Just finished and is looking great... too dark now to get a decent pic but I'll post one first thing in the morning!! I think I'll be waking up to a very clear pool based on what I saw tonight!! After vacuuming to waste I did rinse the filter but think I should have backwashed bc when I went back to filter mode I did get a brief puff of yellow out of the jet. Hopefully not too much back in though and I'll probably add DE to the filter this weekend to get the last of the dead stuff outta there. Does that sound like a good plan?

Did it have the words Fisher Price anywhere on it? LOL

Sounds good - excited to see tomorrow’s update!

Sounds good. Yeah as mentioned, throttling back the valves 1/8 or so will slow the vacuum to waste down and allow you not to lose too much water while getting the spots on the floor. Or as mentioned you can go to the Slime bag or The Duda diesel bag route at 5 or 1 micron to get the fine stuff out. Sounds like you're on your way to clear

vac_heads.jpg yes?

LOLOL YES!!

Pool is looking much much better. Didn't get time to post this morning but here it is! I did another vac to waste this Morning to get some remaining spots and also back washed and rinsed. Some more yellow puffs came out of the jet when I went back to filter mode and there's some remaining spots that reappeared today but I will do the DE this weekend and hopefully that will be the final touch!!

DOING GREAT!

Reminder to re-read: http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/133-add-de-to-a-sand-filter
Reminder to follow safety procedures on packaging like, don't breath this, don't eat this, don't let your kids/pets eat dirt from the backwash spot.

Once you're sure you've vac-to-waste 90% of the floc debris....

Best solution for remaining settled debris is SUPER DUPER SLOW manual vac to filter *not to waste* since it will take forever and you'd lose all your clear water. Almost painfully slow. Play some calming music, put on the sunscreen, wear your shades, and barely crawl your way across the floor like you're trying to fall asleep (but stay awake). If possible, try to let the suction remove the debris ahead of your vac head before moving to that spot. You're essentially sucking up the debris before you get there, rather than letting the waves caused by the head moving poof away the debris.

Yes, technically you could add the DE then just brush the bottom up real good to get all the debris floating, but that's almost always slower than a slow manual vac.

Exactly what BATTLEOFYAKIMA said. You can throttle back both your intake and return ball valve 1/8th to 1/4 of a turn to slow down the water suction and pressure to vacuum slower. In other words say your startup clean operating pressure is 10 psi for example. If I throttle back just intake ball valve 1/4 turn the psi may go downto about 8 or 9 psi, if I leave my intake at full throttle and I throttle back the return, my pressure will go up to 12 to 14 psi. Now if I also throttle back my return ball valve 1/4 turn along with the intake ball valve simultaneously, it will even the pressure back out to 10 psi, while slowing down the velocity of the suction and the return pressure, hencing giving you a slower, less turbulant water flow and suction to vacuum slower, and filter finer suspended debris in the water. Make sense?

Vacuuming alone is not cutting it. While pondering my next step of using DE, a friend found Doheny Cloudbuster that had great reviews... anyone with experience good or bad? Detrimental effects? I'm sure it's not tfp approved or it would already have been recommended! But I'm tired of cloudiness...

It is a clarifier. Not needed but can accelerate clearing the fines in your water.

If you use one, plan to deep clean your sand filter after. Leaving remnants of it in the sand filter can clump up your sand and require its replacement.

Take care.

Go with the DE option or Fiber Clear over the clairifier. You dont want to gunk up your sand.

Me personally?... I prefer to mechanically filter out finely suspended particles, cloudy water, or dead algae that my cartridge filter doesnt grab, with the aid of skimmer socks and a duda diesel 5 micron or 1 micron bag on the return jets. Polishes my water real nice, removes pollen and fine sediment.

Are you running the sand filter 24 hours a day right now?
FC staying within target range and you're having to add less than 4 FC per day?
Is the water:
A. crystal clear but debris on the floor
B. slightly less than clear water and debris on floor?
Are you currently using skimmer socks/hairnets?
These spots are returning in less than 24 hours from a brush or vac, correct? Same locations?

Just so we can give you the best advice for YOU and your pool ... what is it about the DE or CF that you're unsure about and/or what is it about the floc/clarifier that appeals to you more? There's nothing wrong with trying whatever you want on your pool, and I ask because back when everyone was suggesting I use MA to lower my PH, I had safety reservations. To some degree, they downplayed them, but the label was super scary. Long story short, eventually I asked a bunch of questions and got a bunch of answers and was confident enough to make a plan, try it, and it has been PH lowering love ever since! I'm not saying DE or CF is your best choice, but if it is, I want to be sure we give you all the info you need to choose it if you want. We're here to help AND respect your choices. :)

Where do I begin tonight.... pool is much cloudier today and probably headed back to a slam. The spots were still there and they pretty much return tothe same places but tonight there were more. Went to village pool supply to get DE and chlorine and the lady gave me 4 oz. SeaKlear clarifier and said if that doesn't clear it up come back and I'll sell you the DE. So forgive me butI'm desperate and I did.
Ran all tests tonight and had to decrease pH from 8.2 down to 7.5.
FC 4.5 (staying relatively stable but running SWG a lot)
TA 120
CYA 70
I can't put any more brain cells into it tonight and now haveto travel 2 days for work so so knows whatI'll come back to, but I'll have my son keep chlorine level at least.
First pics was this morning, other 2 from tonight... what a change for the worse.

I’m sorry. What time did you add the clarifier?

I don’t know how much help I could give, but holler when you get back from trip. I’m in Tampa... not too far.
