First time pool owner, should I drain due to high CYA?

Fellow Tucsonian here. I'm cruising the boards here again, after about a year's hiatus. Long story, for another post. Basically, the monsoons last August killed all my equipment. I now have a swamp, so MUST drain and clean, clean, clean. I am going to follow you and see how your project progresses. :) So, I will be lurking!!!
